The Divergent Series: Allegiant Movie Blurb by Shale March 19, 2016 This is the third in the Divergent Series movies. You can see my Blurbs on the others here: Divergent March 21, 2014 http://www.hipforums.com/forum/topic/456986-divergent/ The Divergent Series: Insurrection - March 20, 2015 http://www.hipforums.com/articles.html/_/whats-new-on-hip-forums/the-divergent-series-insurrection-r36 It opens after the evil Jeanine (Kate Winslet) has been defeated by the small band of good Dauntless faction lead by Four (Theo James), with the aid of his estranged mother, Evelyn (Naomi Watts) and her army of factionless. Tris (Shailene Woodley) had revealed that the persecuted Divergent were in fact actually the purpose of the faction experiment by the founders of the city. The conquering factionless have set up trials for the previous bad guys and it has become a reign of terror with summary executions. Johanna Reyes (Octavia Spencer) the leader of the Amity faction cannot deal with this so their group leaves to oppose Evelyn. Also, Four, Tris, her brother Caleb (Ansel Elgort) Christina (Zoë Kravitz), Tori (Maggie Q) decide to leave the city and explore beyond the wall. The sneaky former Dauntless Peter (Miles Teller) connives them to take him as well. 6 Escape to the Wall They finally get over the wall and discover a vast wasteland of a war 200 years ago. Scaling the Wall They eventually meet the civilized ppl in a modern city who are running the Faction experiment in the ruins of Chicago. Tris is informed by David (Jeff Daniels) the Director of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare that she is the perfect result of the genetic experiment but all the others are damaged. They are going to be helped but Tris is a success for David to present to the Council for his bureaucratic needs. This puts a strain on Tris and Four's relationship since he is one of the not-quite genetically perfect samples. Four & Tris Still Together Needless to say, paradise has its problems and our group ends up returning to Chicago to prevent a war. There are some tense moments as they try to undo some of the damage started by the traitorous Peter. This movie was not as fun as the previous two. It was panned by the aggregate critics at Rotten Tomatoes who only gave it a 10% fresh. Their consensus was, "Allegiant improves on previous entries in The Divergent Series on a few superficial levels, but they aren't enough to counteract a sense of growing boredom with a franchise that's gone on too long." Oh, on that last note, I assumed this would be the end of a trilogy and wondered why David was shown in the last scene spying in the other characters. Seems there is another sequel planned, The Divergent Series: Ascendant. I think the franchise will have gone on too long and have misgivings about the next film.
One article I read described it as Genre Fatigue, and it just doesn’t have the staying power of a Hunger Games or The Maze Runner Hotwater
