“Everyone all around is always like ‘look at these $500 shoes. Look at these $300 shoes,'” Paape said. “That’s ridiculous. I’m going to do the complete opposite of you, and I’m going to go shoeless.”

“I started going shoeless three months ago,” Paape said. “Literally everywhere. We went to a theatre convention and didn’t touch my shoes the entire time. I go to restaurants, I go to Kroger, literally everywhere. Going into it, I find the benefits and the comfort of going shoeless. It actually decreases joint inflammation and reduces depression and stress by 62 percent – doctor proven.”

I wasn't even looking for this, I saw another petition last week to put warning labels on shoes that damage your feet and found this. Still looking for that. Can't seem to find it.

I realize I screwed up copying the newspaper reporters stupid title 'soulful' petition , the kid didn't make that up.

Here is the real petition Sign the Petition

I just posted it real quick and went back to my failed effort to find the article I saw with the idea to require a warning label on shoes that damage your feet.

You take all this too seriously.

Can't we just walk around barefoot quietly?

What a great idea! Unfortunately though far too many people care about what we do or don't have on our feet.

I haven't found this. No one cares. The only people who go on about it are barefooters. Signing stupid petitions. Ridiculous. Every now and then you might get stick for doing something unusual. Just get the hell on with it. Ignore them and move on. People making a campaign out of it is embarrassing.

Hopefully that's the case where you live and if it is I'm jealous. Most do not care but there is a small minority of those that do. I have been hassled in stores and by people just walking by. It may seem like a bunch of whining but this is a good place to vent (we are among like minded soles (pun intended)) after all. As a result it may seem like an inappropriate amount of whining.
I can see the petition. The school has a dress code and someone is working to change it. Its a situation where the barefooter can't just go on if he wants change.
I say good luck to him.

I agree with the effort to petition and attempt to change the rules. The right to redress is embedded in our constitution and presumably the high school is a publicly owned and operated institution (i.e. government). Win or loose it is a good education in civics that may be invaluable to at least those students that are involved.

Since the dress code is, in part, based on the shoe-culture prejudice, I can certainly empathize with why they don't like it. I personally feel that prejudice is wrong and should be changed. Consider where our culture would be if there were no anti-slavery or civil rights movements in America's past?

Maybe I'm too passive in this area. School dress code insisted I remove a facial piercing, so I left school. (I was a few months from finishing anyway and they still let me come in to do exams)

Petitioning to change the rules did not occur to me.

If its a building of some organisation, even like a school, but certainly in the case of privately owned businesses like stores they have every right to demand some kind of footwear. I would very likely do the same.

What logical reason would anyone have to make a rule to keep people who are about to spend money out of a business cause they don't have shoes on ??

Most retailers benchmark their pricing decisions using keystone pricing, which is essentially doubling the cost of the product to arrive at a 50% markup.

You would have to be retarded to turn away any costumer over some rigid thinking about shoes, I don't get it.

Please explain the thinking to me, I don't get why one person would ever need to consern themselves on whether or not the next person wears shoes or not. I want to know so next time I come across one I can deal with it better.

i didn't read the article, but paape must life in the ghetto. that's the only place i've been where people spend that kind of money on shoes, and the only place where people would normally ever brag about their shoes.

doubling the cost of the product would be a 100% markup.

i've been told that 75% is standard, but i don't work in retail so i can't really verify it. when i worked in food it was more like 500%, but that's a whole different thing.

In my case it would not primarily be for logical reasons. It would mainly be out of principle :sunglasses:
If the majority of (potential) customers would be barefoot perhaps.
My store, my rules. The more a barefoot customer makes an issue of it the less chance I would respond reasonably. The only way you would be able to deal with it is to accept and come back with footwear, or not come back at all.

You mean like a a fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning ?

I am just curious about details this chain of reasoning.

Anyway this student had the school completely beat if their only argument is calling it a safety issue when in New Zealand going shoe-less in school is normal and they never had saftey issues.

People in New Zealand don't wear shoes but what about in old Zealand, New Zealand is an island in the south Pacific but where the heck is the original Zealand ?
