Trains were nice and good in Denmark..well organised.. and punctual as well..we left for Fyn island.. this as well involved a ferry crossing Korsor towards Nyborg.. nowadays they built a bridge..just like they did for the Oresund.. between Copenhagen to Malmo(Sweden)we took the hydrofoil.. now..Odense..capital of Fyn..was reached... we went first to the Youth hostel..to book for the night.. a very nice place..about 2kms.by bus..we got our places.. in that youth hostel..you got no key from the rooms.. but a credit card like thing..very safe..but..I'll tell you later... funny anectdote happened for a Norvegian in my room..uhuh.. We took a bus back to the town..first thing we did.. a visit to the house of Hans Christian Andersen..a very good museum.. it's full of memorabilia of this fairy tale writer..like sketches, drawings etc.. as usual lots of tourists in a place like that..but it was interesting.. in the afternoon we took a bus to the Fynske Landsby=an open air museum with old farmhouses, utensils, pottery demonstration,an old mill,folklore.. very friendly people who told us about old customs of this place.. http://museum.odense.dk/Den_Fynske_Landsby/DFLOnline.aspx P.S.click English on right corner+places on that map.... in the evening..food at the Youth hostel..French fries, salad, chicken legs.. really well made and served..for a reasonable price..so after that.. a good shower to rinse away the dust of the day..now..this card system.. to enter the rooms..very safe indeed..we all went to bed at 23.00h.. there were about 4 people in my room..a Norvegian.. decided to go for a pee in the middle of the night.. you guess well..he went in his underwear..and forgot his door card.. he got locked out..and it took a while indeed.. before we heard him banging at the door.. he simply could NOT get in..a very safe system..but?? next morning a good breakfast...and back by train to Copenhagen.. we got our bed/breakfast place arranged before we left for Odense.. the owner kept our place..next day..we were gonna go by hydrofoil to Malmo(Sweden)a day return..and a train ride to Lund..nice town.. We walked all the way down to Kongens Nytorv.. that meant a walk through Stroget again..always nice to do.. Danish shops use lots of design and decoration..Danes love art.. very close to Kongens Nytorv..is a canal like water..which is Nyhavn.. it connects to Inderhavnen=harbour..don't miss Nyhavn..it's worthwhile.. http://www.copenhagenet.dk/CPH-Nyhavn.htm the buildings there..are very typical and colourful..ships,boats as well.. it breathes a bit of a sailors mood..lots of places to eat..to sit down.. lots of caf?'s,sailor bars, tattoo shops..we found a genuine fish'n/chips.. run by folks from the U.K..damn..fishn'/ships..1 big cod,please..mmmm.. I recall it was a sunny day..lots of strolling folks..that's Copenhagen.. we walked back to our bed/breakfast..but first..asked informations.. in Central Station..about tickets to Fyn..we were going to Odense.. will tell about that visit in next posting..nice place.. Tiger..
Copenhagen...got good transport facilities..subway,bus.. we took both..as a matter of fact we DID not try the bicycles.. Denmark invented a system..free city bike... you just take a bike..drive around with it..and deposit somewhere.. I never tried it..sounds big fun..I believe one pays 20 dkr??? street traffic is rather O.K..subway service is great.. we did the famous shopping street called Stroget.. they claim it's the longest shopping street in the world.. it runs between Radhuspladsen to Kongens Nytorv.. ful of activity, caf?s,restaurants, fast food joints, streetbuskers etc.. it was a pleasure walking here..we bought some amber stone.. and had food in an Indian restaurant..buffet style.. Danes are funloving folks..on a summer day..the're out on the streets.. it took us all day almost just to stroll around..window shopping.. but oh well..Denmark was bloody expensive..the next day..we planned a visit to Nyhavn..and the next one..a train trip to Odense.. to visit the house of Hans Christian Andersen..Odense is on Fyn island.. we stayed in the Youth hostel there..very nice place..funny anectdote.. will keep you peeps busy with my rantings...booohh.. Copenhagen..would not be complete without a visit to the*little Mermaid* it's on Langelinie Kaj...legends tell that this *lille Havefrue=little Mermaid* was a daughter of the king of the sea.. she exchanged her nice voice for the statue.. to win the heart of her her prince charming... unfortunateley..he went away with someone else.. she died of sorrow from this..sad story really.. nowadays..this statue is a tourist attraction for million of tourists.. it's bit like the little piddling man=manneken Pis from Brussels.. fact is..sometimes..they vandalised this statue..beheaded her.. or even took it away..that's cruel..how can a human soul do this?? http://hjem.get2net.dk/OSJ_INDEX/hybenrose/havfruen/eng/vandalism.htm the next thing we did was a visit to a museum called Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek =a beautiful art collection..beautifully displayed interior.. which needed further investigation..not only Danish art.. but French and Dutch..like Degas,Monet,Van Gogh..we took our tea time there.. and the outlay of this museum even consisted of a wintergarden.. in the evening...we did a thing..which I will never forget.. we entered Tivoli gardens around 5 p.m..and we stayed in there.. until past midnight..we saw the going over from daylight to nigh time.. and thousands of electrical colourful bulbs..all cheerfull folks..a fun park.. so much to see..at midnight there were fireworks..there were clowns,a theater performance, merry go rounds,Chinese pagode, flowerbeds full of tulips etc..it needs to be seen to be believed..it's really nice.. we took our food in Tivoli=a Yougoslavian dish.. with paprika and the whole stuff..bit hot... I'll see for a link..for the mermaid.. http://www.copenhagenpictures.dk/mermaid.html Tiger
