Exactly, it is more useful than just leisure. There are a lot of functional how-to videos, such as the examples you've mentioned. I've used it to remove a motherboard from a smart phone and learn to pick a lock. I've known people to use it as a reference for work. Some episodes of podcasts, lectures, documentaries run about 2-3 hours, so it's fairly easy to spend several hours on youtube watching a few of those and I'm sure they are not the only types of programs that run for that duration. I discovered this show called Closer to Truth, where the host explores a particular topic per episode from fields such as Philosophy/Cosmology/Metaphysics and discusses said topic with experts in the field. I binged on that for a few days initially, to watch a couple seasons, I think the episodes are about an hour each. However I couldn't regularly watch youtube for hours.
Those life hacks vids are the dumbest, make a mini hairdryer out of a little electric motor and a coke bottle, you know, just in case you have a pet hamster and it every needs a blowdry The dumbest thing I have ever seen in Youtube is one of those vids, and someone suggests a way to make flip flops out of large PET soda bottles
So I was visiting my 95 year old father and trying to teach him how to get YouTube on his smart TV that my brother bought him...when he thought he could figure it out and just talk to the remote. Yeah. This is the remote: He's like, totally confused. So we start and right away I find out his WiFi is screwed up as you have to be within 10 feet of the Xfinity modem or it doesn't work. So I give that up and plug in a LAN cable and it works. Now to get to You Tube you have to press home, then up, then left two times, then the center select button. Then after repeating those instructions six hundred and seventy times I finally get him to where he can find a video, I mean movie, of a Model A Ford....and YouTube crashes. So we quit.
you tube is not very stable streaming onto tv set. I dont know why. both comcast and verizon share this problem . it freezes and wont allow you to command out. 50% power down is the only way to fix it.. and it really pisses me off.
I watch the occassional funny video but i'm not a regular youtube watcher, i usually just listen to something in the background while I do other thingd

Lately I've been watching rappers listen to classic rock, like Jimi Hendrix and Janus Joplin for the first time....(First Time Reactions)...something different from my usual '60s What's My Line TV show. They're clueless, but I haven't found one that doesn't like what they hear.
I get it through DISH TV and my internet service (PenTeleData) without a smart TV, just an HD set. Works great.
They have a ton of those. All kinds of people listening to music from outside their comfort zone. Some of the reactions are great. There was one with senior citizens listening to Eminem. Also, the story about you trying to set up YouTube for your dad was adorable. Carry on.
probably some update issue. I dont use the boxes enough. most the time i turn it on its saying menu with a screen saver. though casting seems to work better, then going to the widget icon
This is so huge with music I like. "Im here because (insert movie, TV show, or video game here)." The music I like never ends up on the radio, but it's all apparently on every other form of media. I've learned this thanks to YouTube comments.
Music videos on youtube have the best comment section on the internet. There's not a ton of name calling or picking political fights, etc. Just a bunch of people explaining how/why a song means something to them. It's nice.
Some of the comments have a kind of innocuous sarcasm about them, which is amusing. (I don't know what's up with my vocab lately, I keep pulling out these random words I never use) Like if a song is say 4 minutes long, there will be a comment that's like "My least favorite part of the song is 4:01" or if it's some really simplistic pop/rap song with trite lyrics, they'll post as if the singer is some brilliant lyricist and make a case that the lyrics are actually quite profound and meaningful.
don't forget the people commenting on the number of thumbs down each video gets. you know, if you're watching born to be wild and it has 30 thumbs downs, someone will have to comment "30 people were born to not be wild."
07:08 YouTube just blocked out fundamentally delisted a video that is meant to expose the hate-filled ways of someone who's sitting there and literally spouting off anti-semitic things it doesn't make any sense.
Youtube comments at their finest: "The bass player robot simply stands there doing nothing just like a human bass player would do." 'They all got laid by the toaster after the show" "Robot designer: should we make robots to benefit humanity in some way? His mate: naaaaaaah make them play Ace of Spades" "Still has more soul than pop music" "heavy metal playing heavy metal"
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 on PS1 No way would I have gotten into 90% of these songs if it hadnt been for that game
