yeah, but that's shit we had to deal with, too, years and years ago. my parents didn't have it much better, either. it's ALWAYS been a struggle to get by, to deal with life day to day. it's just that now kids aren't helping to support their families, so they have more time on their hands.
Not necessarily. I know both of my parents didn't finish high school. They both ended up with great careers in the medical industry. That's more of what I meant, like now you can't do anything except flip burgers at McDonalds if you don't have a high school diploma, and if you actually want a good job, good pay, you have to do really well to get into further education. Some days it seems impossible. Kids are expected to act like adults far before their time, and they rebel against it.
Kids have become aware of politics, their surroundings, their civil rights and the law's loopholes. With lack of tougher sentences for juvenile crimes, this makes them invincible. Affectively they are potential public enemy no.1. The problem is, they know too much too young.
Do you want to make your generalisations a bit more sweeping there John, your thoughts are way too specific
Saw a bunch of kids on the Free bus this afternoon. Thank goodness they showed atleast some signs of morality as they helped an old person on the bus. I think with soft sentences, I wonder whether a bill should be put forward in parliament that if a child commits an adult crime of heinus proportions like murder or rape, they should be tried as adults.
that is bollocks that is. they had that in NY. so, some fucked up 8 year old gets their hand on daddies gun and kills some 6 yr old kid next door. now the 8 yr old is put in prison for life. you telling me that a kid can't learn that what they did is bad and move on from it? not to mention if you try kids as adults, and you happen to be in a part of the world that allows the death penalty on the table then those kids tried as adults can be killed like adults as well. and dont' think it doesn't happen.
You can't just generalise kids so easily. I'm seventeen, I've been well aware of politics, my surroundings, my rights, the world, for many years now, I'm not out causing trouble, or being violent. Children being smart is a good thing, I doubt that is the problem.
In my opinion; the government is starting to act about this "aim high or get nowhere in life" approach, they're starting to bring apprentiships back like it was back when my mum and dad were just starting to look for jobs.
Perhaps they are trying but it is not getting through. I'm about to graduate high school, and through out all of it, university was stressed, from teachers, my parents, it was the way to go. They hardly talk about jobs that you would get through apprentishships, here we are in desperate need for trades people, plumbers, carpenters, electricians, but it's looked down on in school. It's seen at the thing the drop outs go do or the kids with bad marks. That's not how I think at all, but that's how it's shown to us.
Indeed, I'm in grammar school currently (well i'm being tutored as i've been out of school ill for 3 years -.-) but anyway.. I can see what you mean, many people look down on the trade skills which are the most needed! The plumbers/roofers/carpenters/handymen who are always in demand seem to be raking in alot of money, but the schools don't seem to show the benefits of tradeskills :& :&
kids who commit adult crimes, should be treated as adults when being dealt with by the law. All this cannot mention kids names or show pictures of the convicts because they are kids is wrong. Take the bulger case, the law was against their crime but now the law is backing them. Anyone who identifies the killers will recieve heavy jail sentences. Anyone who tracks them down could face long term imprisonment plus a criminal record. I mean the justice system in this country is mad. i have lost all faith in the justice system because it restrains the right of the victims and meanwhile supports the criminals. Nowadays our prisons have tvs, kettles. Just imagine what a young offenders institute or a YOI have. Apparently the bulger killers had education that every scholar in the land could dream of, a massive swimming pool with jacuzi and Turkish bath. A first class gymnasium (making First fitness look like a gymnasium that has not seen a refurbishment since 1987 and where pictures of cliff richard still stick inside the girls lockers.) In my opinion, the YOIs and the prisons should adopt a basic regime. Bread and water, bowl of porridge in the morning and dank and dark dungeons. Now that's what I call justice. Also this should deter far more young people aswell as adult excons.
Wow... I really want to reply to you're post, but I'm having a hard time doing so. I suppose if you wanted those conditions for the inmates of your country you could go live in a third world country, where that's basically it. Prisons get treated like shit. I'm sure you'll find their legal systems a lot more justifying. One thing that really struck me in your post was about the education. Shouldn't that be the whole point? Have inmates educate themselves, lean what they can while they're in, in hopes of having a better life when they get out? If they're more educated than they can make more educated decisions.
Kids have no respect for anyone. A few months ago, me and my boyfriend were heading home after a night out, and a girl who was around 17, comes to us on the street and asks us to buy fags and alcohol for her and her mates. we both said we wouldn't do it, and quickly walked off, but she and her mates started following us and calling my boyfriend a wanker and the girl tried to kick him...we quickly walked off. I felt so angry, because even though we were quite polite and said, nope, sorry we won't do it, they were abusive and just plain obnoxious. I hate kids.
Shouldn't these be resources available for everyone to have access to? If we are to believe what you're saying is actually fact.
i think john is completely off his rocker. i honestly am speechless and don't even think i can dignify a proper response at this point.
Thank you for your comments so far. I realise that there is a need of education in the prison system but it should be the basic. Prison has always been for punishment and the public's revenge. If we the public don't get our revenge or justice, we lose total faith in our justice system. Anyway, I feel that local communities should unite together to denounce gang culture. The prime ministers speech was controversial but I think the essence of community action is important here.
I'm surprised you'd want to waste the money, send em to the chambers man along with all those others you dont like. solitary relief.
