Not freaking out isn't weak... I think its strong if anything to keep your composure at all times. what I'm talking about is the retards who throw themselves off buildings or just go completely mental after acid, etc. Its like, "compose yourself, man." that's why i love experimenting recreationally; seeing how far I can push my mind, how far i can go. I've never lost it - acted strange, sure, but I think its a lot of weak, brainwashed minds that lose it.

It's interesting how this issue falls on either side of the generations. Younger people as a general rule don't see a particular problem with most drugs, or simply consider taking them to be a personal choice that shouldn't be infringed upon.

Older people, who have seen or experienced firsthand the devastating effects of long-term drug use on individuals and families, see it quite differently.

In my opinion, the hard drugs are a scourge on human civilization as surely as HIV or the threat of nuclear war. You cannot convince me that it's ok "as long as you know what you're doing". If you're taking these things, then you don't know what you're doing. It's not just about personal freedom, because it effects everyone.

And please, don't try to tell me that alcohol is worse and therefore that somehow makes it ok to do drugs. You're totally correct that alcohol kills thousands and thousands of people every year. But that doesn't mean you should substitute one for the other.

I'm not talking about lighting up an occasional joint. I'm talking about being a total stoner, which is no different than being a total drunk. Both of them destroy lives, and destroy families.

And also don't try to tell me that you're not harming anyone else. Who do you think pays for all that rehab? Who do you think pays for all that lost productivity? Who do you think pays for all the crime that gets committed?

And if you think I don't know what I'm talking about because I'm just some old lady who doesn't "understand you", then you're wrong. I've been there. I've probably done more dope than you've seen in your entire life. But luckily I realized what it was doing, to me and to the people I loved. Maybe you will too.

There are two types of recreational drugs, addictive (like heroin, morphine, meth) and non-addictive (like Pot and LSD). ANY person will become addicted to the former, but usually only addictive personalities become addicted to the latter.

In that respect, non-addictive drugs are somewhat like alcohol. Not everyone who drinks is an alcoholic and not everone who takes recreational drugs is a drug addict - but some are.

This is where caution should be exercised. If one is an addictive personality, one may become completely obsessed with any kind of drug that brings enjoyment, whether it is addictive by nature, or not.

If one is using drugs and it does not negatively effected them or someone around them, then they are most likely not addicted. It's dangerous, though, because no one knows until they get there, whether or not they will experience negative effects... and by then, it's too late.

Use caution, kids. As the old hippies can attest, it doesn't take a lifetime, or even a dozen times to reach whatever enlightenment you may hope to achieve. It only takes opening the door. It's kind of like Pandora's box, in that respect: for better or worse, once it's open, it's open.

It's funny to me to think that I actually took LSD close to 2000 times and I still have my sanity
