Most young hippies i know are wannabes anyway. A lot of young people don't really understand what hippies are about. THey just use it as an excuse to get stoned, slack off and preach about peace and love but do they really practice peace and love in their own lives?

In this day 'n age I don't think it's really possible to be the kind of hippie they had back in the 60's/70's. That was a time for people to be really passionate about a cause. We don't have that today.

    Whatever, it's all good anyway.

Just do the steps that you've been shown
    By everyone you've ever known
Until the dance becomes your very own
No matter how close to yours another's steps have grown
In the end there is one dance you'll do alone

we're all posers leading us to what we are.We are what we become.Hippies are timeless only the name is dated. There has and always will be good people seeking truths and a better life with meaning and hope for the future. Those who realize the world consists of more than just them.A few years back, some of them were called hippies .
In reality it's all make believe. The truth only comes in death. When you die,you become you again. That was the point of heroin, not the high but the death experiance and how close one could get to it and then somehow cheat it.It didn't work.it only tore apart a family that was never really a family to begin with.Only a loose group of misfits that only had one common tribute.Nobody else wanted them.
As Jerry said"you gotta keep on keeping on".What a laugh, from the jester comes the answer. With that two other quotes come to mind,Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose.Wrote by Kris for Janis or in the words of Dylan,When you got nothing you got nothing to lose, your invisible, you've got nothing to conceal.Whats that mean, nothing really except those young and old who wish to emulate the so called hippie culture do so because they see value in the way of life. It's all good.peace

Well, hippies helped me stay alive when I was homeless. Not ever going to forget that. Bohemian is an actual lifestyle too.

Hippies helped me a lot. They taught me to believe in something. To believe in Peace and Love. insanejester is right, you can't just wake up in the morning and say...I think I'm a hippie. Those days are gone. We can live the lessons though. We can appreciate the meaningful things that they did. They made the government see that we don't like to be ignored. We want to be heard, and when we speak together, it is one loud proud glorious sound. The way this thread is going now is so cool.

the quote is "the road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom."

from "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell." Proverbs of Hell, a biblical spin.

its bad karma to quote what you don't understand.

    I don't believe in karma...

This thread is ten pages long. Did anyone decide what constitutes a hippy? Or, is it down to time period? [IMG]

Maybe we can get Skip to join in, to see these pointless posts like the one Green just made. No..wait a minute, those posts aren't pointless after all. They prove Curious_Jane's original point! Look guys, if you want to contribute to the discussion,...great...welcome. Here, I'll get you caught up on the history of this thread. We had a good discussion going, until a couple of guys came in and sidetracked it with a series of pointless one-liners. You want to just to "play around" and not say anything constructive? We heard earlier that the young hippies area is a better place to do that.

Yeah, I know..it's kinda hard to do over 4,000 posts, and not shoot an "air ball" once in a while. It's just..I get so beat up over on their side, no matter what I say. And we were all talking over here....having a good time..exploring the subject. Sorry, I didn't really become such a grouch until lately. You know that. (it's really not "my way") Thanks for the reality check. I know I'm probably gonna get flamed for what I said earlier, so I'm just going to take the week-end off and try to get myself back in a good mood. Ya'll take care. w_o

spooner's right I was being a real jerk. gate68 inspired me to go back and read some old posts of his. They aren't pointless. They're just short. What I said back there was B.S.
I went and looked at mine too. Lately, they're just rants... Life's too short to be so dang serious. Sorry for putting you guys through that junk.

Give me your best shot spooner. I deserve it.
