Haha I'm kind of tempted to ask what you do because you make it sound like all you deal with is a bunch of straight edge old religious women..... My best guess would be a nursing home or some sort of church establishment. idk what it could be.
dunno if you were talking to me... but actually I work on a boat, and the people are tourists. and actually, i just found out (to my extreme irritation) that they have hired a guy with a tattoo of a naked chick on his arm, and another guy with a tattoo covering his neck, with huge ear gauges. so I retract any sympathy I had for my boss's point of view.
I work in a hotel. In this whole area (south) you really don't have to far to find a right wing religious zealot.
Man. Hotels... So basically the customers come for a few days then never return. Why make em happy??? lol... still i dont see why your hair would make any difference, its not like they can see the employees when theyre looking for rooms online or whatever. haha. If they did you better be able to get dreads. Neck tats and guages! Thats blasphemy. I would think that would be alittle bit more "frowned upon" then dreads.
well, i work as a receptionist in a massage therapy clinic and most of our clients are what i would consider "conservative". nobody has had a problem with it yet. whn i decide to move on, i just plan on going to the interview as if my hair is as normal as anyone else's. like someone said before, it's about how you sell yourself.
Is it impossible to wear your hair up/ I have seen soo many pretty head wraps and hats .I have seen people in very conservative jobs with their hair(or possibly dreads) beautifully wrapped up and out of sight, I do think it can be important to look presentable to customers at some jobs but I don't see why even messy baby dreads have to hinder you from that
I've said it before, and I'll say it again... There is no job you can't get because of your dreads, save maybe surgeon. If you are confident, and you know your field, dreads don't hinder your ability to do whatever you put your mind to.
The majority of our business is walk-ins, not reservations. We actually get a lot of repeat business. We aren't really a torrist destination, we get people on business and travels passing through. But we get people who stay here a couple days every week. We have one guy that's here for an entire week every other week. To get what I'm talking about, you'd really have to be around these people. My cousin just came out as lesbian, their trying to take her daughter away because of only this. And they're making her daughter hate her and think that she is messed up and perverted. This is the type of place I live in. I've had people (quite a few) make some pretty evil comments just because my ears are gauged. Maybe next year when I move to Panama City. I'll be in the city with slightly better views and more job availablity. So if one place don't like it, I'll just try another. Not really an option where I am now.
