Choosing to be pro-Black could be an ideology, being a black woman is not an ideology.

Feminism scares the fuck out of a lot of people.

One day someone will present a compelling argument as to why.

Christina Hoff Sommers has provided some good arguments as to why. It's a movement that was very important in the 20th century, but as she mentions is the case with most movements, when they reach a certain point, they kind of grasp onto things to solidify the movement with, some of which run contrary to the original motives of the movement.

I think this is the stuff we see in a lot of post 2nd wave feminism that some people tend to reject, it often comes in the form of an escalation of vindictiveness towards men, for instance to the point where apparently men sitting naturally is now seen as some offense to a certain section of feminists.

I wonder why such feminists are resistant to promoting egalitarianism?

In the UK it was once women that ridiculed as bad drivers (and still are by some types of men) this went on basically from the beginning of the 1950’s to the end of the 70’s. Britain was richer and many women had driven in the war and wanted to get on the road.

The ‘women driver’ joke and humour is very common in the literature, film and TV of the time. The implication was that women were too flighty, irrational and hysterical to be good drivers like sensible, rational and clear headed men. Maybe stupid is the wrong word but there was a sense amongst some me that women lacked the mental capacity to be good drivers.

Now many have pointed out that women that learnt to drive gained a lot more freedom than those that didn’t they gained a certain amount of control over their lives that some men found uncomfortable. Also a lot of male driver frustration with women drivers was because women drivers were more likely to drive by the rules for example staying at the approved speed limit.

The ‘jokes’ died out by the 1980’s because by them virtually all women became drivers and it turned out that they had statistically fewer accidents and made fewer claims, enabling insurers to reward them with lower premiums.

Well I was thinking of the thing about women drivers and remembering when I was a kid a man shouting at my mother that ‘women are too fucking stupid to be allowed to drive’ after he nearly crashed into her.

So to you - ‘I'd never fuck a feminist. Bestiality is illegal where I'm from’ – is just ‘making fun’?

Sorry but to me that isn’t a little light fun that points to deep visceral hatred.

The subjects might not be the same but what about the mentality? Be it race, gender, sexual orientation or ideology the kind of animus that such ‘jokes’ can display is I believe the same.

If by ‘sitting naturally’ you mean the aggressive ‘manspread’ that some men adopt usually on public transport well you can call me a soy boy but I’m also against it.

For those that don’t know this ‘manspreading’ is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as - “the practice whereby a man adopts a sitting position with his legs wide apart, in such a way as to encroach on an adjacent seat'

I don’t want some fucking jerk trying to steal my fucking space, and yes it is always a man I’ve never had a women do it.

And it isn’t all men it’s just the jerks, the type that want to pretend they have such a big dick they need the space (and pretend is the operative word). Any decent human being sits in the space allocated to them by their ticket.

You've stereotyped a group of people and made some assumptions about them... lemme think... it's almost like ... it's almost like you could make a joke out of this.

But @Balbus that quoted section sounds like vitriol and I don't think I could say it any better myself...

LOL you mean jerks? Do you think jerks are ‘a people’

Oh come on man what asumptions have I made - they are acting like jerks so I doin’t have to assume anything I can see they are acting like jerks.

So let me see - in your eyes saying someone is a jerk because they are acting like a jerk is exactly the same as 6 saying - - ‘I'd never fuck a feminist. Bestiality is illegal where I'm from’

LOL – what was that you said about false equivalence

@Balbus That's a hodge podge of things I've said. You're grasping at straws.

    In regards to "Manspreading"?

Some might be jerks but are you seriously going to tell me there aren't times, such as a hot day when you're sweaty down there that you don't feel more comfortable with your legs open?

To repeat - ‘manspreading’ is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as - “the practice whereby a man adopts a sitting position with his legs wide apart, in such a way as to encroach on an adjacent seat'

I don’t want some fucking jerk trying to steal my fucking space, and yes it is always a man I’ve never had a women do it.

I think in this context (with someone manspreading into your seat space) only a self centred jerk would put their own comfort far above that of their fellow passangers.

If by definition, it requires an adjacent seat to be occupied, I don't think I've ever really encountered or witnessed the phenomena in an egregious way, certainly no more egregious than the space occupied by some big legged women. I've personally been bitched at by someone on public transportation due to space but it wasn't due to "manspreading", it was due to my legs extending "too far out". I'm 6'2 though and the space between the seats was tiny. (are we going to call this "manlegging"?)

I have seen all kinds of obnoxious behavior on public transporation though, I have seen guys spread across vacant seats, I've seen both men and women lay down across multiple seats and people put bags on seats that didn't need to be there, people singing and all kinds of trivial stuff that could be viewed as inconveniences, if you needed some things to be bitter about.

LOL I’m not ‘bitter’ I just think that people that manspread are jerks and its seems even you seem to think manspreading would be jerkish behavipour so what was your point and example of women complaining about ‘men sitting naturally’?

As I've said, given your context I don't see the "manspreading" phenomena in real life. My understanding of it is primarily from the internet and with that in mind, I think your context is narrowly defined, if not a bit disingenuous, nothing more needs to be said. I stand by my original statement.

Where do you live and how often do you travel on public transport?

I’ve seen 'the phenomena‘ of manspreading, not too often but enough to know there are jerks out there.

OK here’is your original statement –

So are you now saying that now you know manspreading exists that you have changed your opinion or that even though you now know it exist you still think it is only about feminists wanting to be vindictive toward men?
