Sorry for the spaz attack. I just hate that tough guy crap. I've had to put up with so much of it. And yeah, I'm not a big beer drinker, myself. I'm more of a wino, really.
Some Belgian and Dutch beers taste like dishwash water..sorry.. I usually go for the abbey beers..or beers with high fermentation.. worst beers??Heineken..Amstel..Stella..Jupiler.. pfft..It doesn't matter really.. if anyone of you ever comes to Belgium??? I'll pay a beer..on my account Tiger
stouts ARE ales. they're just a style of ale, just like many others - india pale ales, brown ales, stouts, porters, american red ale, lambics, witbiers, english ales, scotch ales...the list goes on and on. there seem to be far more different types of ales than lagers that are commonly produced. the difference between ales and lagers is pretty simple. ales are fermented at warm temperatures with top fermenting yeasts, while lagers are made at cooled temperatures with bottom fermenting yeasts. but most of the flavor comes from other factors. there are some great lagers like pilsner urquell and stella artois, and hey, i even like becks, but the majority of commercially available lagers (such as corona, budweiser, coors and miller products, most all cheap beer) use inferior products and processing on a larger scale because that's what the vast majority of the beer consuming public in america is used to, and that's what will make them money. killians is ok, but in my opinion it tastes a little bit thinned out. the taste is generally ok, but its not got any body to it, and it could stand to have a somewhat bolder flavor. it is definitely heads and shoulders above the majority of inexpensive lagers on the market (definitely better than the likes of sorry competitors like corona and heineken and budweiser)...by no means among the best beers out there, but damn drinkable and affordable. personally i have a large number of beers i'd consider my "favorites" i like pilsner urquell, stella artois, warsteiner, and becks dark for lagers in general, but samuel adams boston lager is a work of art too, just not my favorite. for stouts and porters guinness is definitely a sure thing, but i also like edmund fitzgerald porter by great lakes brewing company, samuel smith's taddy porter i like a bit better than guinness, and they also produce an absolutely stellar oatmeal stout. i love everything i've tried by the samuel smith folks, but the winter welcome ale is one of the very best in my opinion. rogue dead guy ale is great.... flying dog pale ale is great, also... smithwicks is very nice, and if you like guinness you will probably like smithwicks. a guinness and smithwicks black and tan is delicious, by the way.
Milwaulkees best fucking sucks i defintaly dont think guinnes is the best its just what everybody thinks guinnes is like the king of dark beer and shit because they are not beer conniseurs there are plenty of stouts much better than guinness i personaly like bells java stout and rouge chocolate stout it dosent really taste like chocolate at all its just the kind of malts they use. If you drink cheap shit atleast go for molson or harp.
you like sammy adams more than killians? wow... i thinkt he ales i am talking about usually say pale ale, that's what sounds familiar, and I had a couple of what I remember to be english ales that *really* sucked that were su pposedly good, yea they sucked.
guinness is a simply fantastic beer, but no, it is by no means the BEST stout. it just has the best marketing, reputation, and distribution. you can get guinness in a gas station; you'll never see the other higher end beers anyplace like speedway...
no, i would drink killians before sam adam's boston lager most days, because while i think sam adam's is a better crafted beer by a long shot, it doesnt fit my tastes as well as the flavor of killian's. however, almost any of sam adam's seasonal beers i would definitely choose over killian's hands down. they're all made with the same quality, but with very different recipes...they make some great beers. i think i like the spring or winter ones best. trust me, though, there are good ales out there, but they might just mostly not be to your liking. like i said, there are great lagers, too. if you haven't had pilsner urquell you really owe it to yourself to get at least a bottle or two to try out. as for ales...well, if you like stouts, you'll like porters....they're essentially the same, according to the homebrew books i've been reading....i'm not sure though. try any darker ale though and you may like it more than you'd expect.
