This poll is horse manure. You are mostly too young to know about any of these men. Without doubt Jimmy Carter is the worst of the list, although Barry Obomba is pushing him and will probably end up on top of the worst.
I don't know who you are saying is too young but your pick Jimmy Carter was a lame duck and thus most of what was done during his presidency can be laid at the feet of the congress. Also many of the things that he tried to do that were such a "bad idea", were a lot of things that are going wrong now that wouldn't be happening if those "bad ideas" had been implemented back then. Energy for instance, did you know Jimmy was advocating alternative energy, and even put solar on the roof of the White House but Regan pulled it off?
In my lifetime, FDR was the worst, although much later I changed that to Carter, but at this time I would have to say that it will be difficult if not impossible to unseat Barack Hussein Obama from the top of the list of worst Presidents past or future. Disagree you may, but give him time and things will get much worse.
I don't remember mentioning Bush, and he would be much further down the list of worst, but not among my top choices. More often than not during my lifetime it has been a choice between the lesser of two evils when going to the voting booth.
I agree, and I still think Jimmy Carter's pretty cool. Obama's another good president with a bad congress. Add to that a campaign finance system in which the biggest donors are the corporations with the deepest pockets who do the most damage, namely wall street, big oil, defense contractors, and health insurance to name a few. It's no wonder we can't make any progress when doing the right thing isn't politically feasible.
...and how anyone can even compare Obama to bush is beyond me. Sure Obama's part of the political establishment that's been screwing us all along, but at least he's doing what he can within the boundaries of what's politically feasible to improve things, which is a far cry from the bush administration's all out assault on the American people. Furthermore Obama is intelligent, well educated, and articulate, unlike the bumbling idiot bush was, an embarassment to this country if there ever was one.
I don't think there's any doubt that George W. will go down as one of the worst. But don't forget Warren G. Harding, whose administration was rocked by scandal after scandal for bribery and other things. He was also suspected of fathering an illegitimate child while in office. Andrew Jackson because of his appalling treatment of Native Americans. Ronald Reagan because of his economic policies. John Adams for the Alien and Sedition Acts. Richard Nixon for being the weirdest person ever to occupy the office.
Only two percent of respondents name LBJ as worst. I take it that most of you weren't around during the Vietnam war. Plus, my reading indicates that most American high school students are taught the history of that war for perhaps one class session (45 minutes) in their history class. 58,000 Americans died there and 304,000 were wounded, not to mention casualties suffered by Vietnam, South Korea and Australia. 20,000 Americans (including me) fled to Canada and 4,000 were jailed for refusing military service. Many (including me) consider the war to have been unnecessary so far as American participation goes. And the whole thing has LBJ's name all over it. I can't believe the city of Dallas named a freeway after this guy.
I think history has given LBJ much credit for the Civil Rights Act, somewhat balancing his dismal immoral failures regarding the Vietnam War.
I think you're right, but I also think LBJ was in the wrong job. He should never have left the Senate.
I think you may be forgetting that Monkeyboy started the Iraq war, maybe just to get himself re-elected. While at the same time presiding over the 2nd worst collapse of the US economy and all the while proclaiming the economy was doing fine. Also Monkeyboy was in office went the worst terrorist attack ever on America took place. That's not even to mention the un-patriot act the biggest sell out of freedoms in American history and all of this is just for starters.
Hands down, without a doubt, Nixon. His secret bombing campaigns in northern Vietnam/Cambodia were monstrous. Infact any US president related to that war, Kennedy and LJ too, should have been done for crimes against humanity. 3-4 million dead and millions of unexploded bombs still to this day killing people in Cambodia/Laos. Not to mention agent orange.
