If only this were really how it is. You're not a woman and probably have never had to deal with pressures of being thin (at least not in the sense that a woman does). Even though I try to have the fuck the media and society attitude, it still gets to me (and I'm not even fat, just a bigger girl). I'm 5'7" and wear between a size 12-14. Yeah sometimes I get frustrated when I find some clothing in a store that I like and the salesgirl will tell me that they only carry up to size 12 and that they just sold their last one in that size and that they usually only order a couple of that size because their most popular size is 7. I even make a point to tell the salesgirl that not everyone is a size 7 but it doesn't make me feel better that I am on the verge of having to shop at plus size stores. Not that theres anything wrong with that (in fact some of the stuff at these stores is pretty darn cute). All I'm saying is that you're right, we should all have that fuck-it attitude, it's just not that easy. It does get easier as I get older though. In my 30's I am more comfortable in my own skin.
I don't think it's fair to say that men in the media aren't judged by the way they look. They are. If they weren't, Orlando Bloom would be out of a job. No one's ever accused Orlando of being a great actor, he just happens to be a very good looking guy. It's not quite at the same extent as it is in the case of woman, though. It is harder for a woman who isn't what MTV says is beautiful to get in the entertainment business than it is for a man who isn't what MTV says is handsome. It's a struggle for them, surely, but not as much of a struggle. Because for all the Roseannes in the business, there are a million more Jennifer Anistons. And I like people from both of those catagories, but it is a big deal when someone who doesn't have that perfect figure gets famous in the business.
Anyway, back to the topic: Queen Latifah. She's a big woman but she is still gorgous. And I like her. She just seems like such a cool person.
Oh yeah, I like her too. Sorry I went off the topic in my musings. I also like Renee Z. but I like her the most in Bridget Jones (maybe because she was the most easy to relate to) however all that weight loss and weight gain can be unhealthy. She, like most of us, should try to pick a healthy weight and maintain it. After all the real issue should be health and not looks anyway. Whoops, there I go again with my rantings. Sorry.
Tyne Daley Dame Judy Dench Jean Stapleton Kate Winslet is beautiful but definately not thin. Very womanly figure on that girl. I'm sure I'll think of more.......
A few more, Helen Mirren Jenny Agutter Zoe Wanamaker. Theres Camryn Manheim from the Practice, Kate Mulgrew from Voyager, also from Deep Space Nine you have Nana Visitor and Terri Farrell. None of these people could be described as unattractive, in fact they are all pretty much gorgeous, but they certainly are not your average "hollywood" female. Can i be controversial and say that this is more a hollywood issue than a worldwide one... Bollywood has it fair share of "normal" women, as do most European productions (watch any Pedro Almodovar for some really quite ugly women!!!). Hey - imagine if Harry Potter had been an American film - Hermoine would have probably been played by Lindsay Mohan or someone like that, rather than a normal looking young girl.
I'm sorry, but the actress who played Hermione in Harry Potter was waaay cuter than the books described her as being. She's adorable. The kids who played Potter and Ron Weasly were normal looking, but the gal is gonna be gorgeous when she grows up. anywho, Missy Elliot is cool. Jann Arden is awesome too
There's that dark haired girl and the black girl on "Less Than Perfect" (it's a sitcom, has Andy Dick I think)) The girl who plays Christine on "Yes Dear" Jill on Home improvemant wasn't that large, but she had a normal body And actually Grace is also a good example of normal women like Karen is..because she has small breasts. Naturally thin women usually are small all over, and they have as much problem with body image as everyone else. Hollywood is full of abnormal bodies
Yes, but unfortunately, not all women have an hourglass figure. Even listing all these women who are big and beautiful, what are the rest of us supposed to think? I only gain weight in my middle. At my skinniest, I barely have hips or breasts and my waist isn't that much noticably smaller than my chest or hips. i sort of look like a twelve year old boy who took some of mommy's hormone pills. Right now trying to lose the rest of some baby fat I feel like I'm not even attractive at all, (all the fat is in the middle, not saddle bags or anything, I'd kill for saddlebags!) and I will probably never see a girl who gains weight like me and looks like my body type on TV. Oh sure, ya'll may say they love twelve year old boy types but it's not true. You have to have either hips or boobs AND be real skinny
Actually the first words in my head when reading your description were, "Hehe. Cute." Then again, I'm a little nutty. My mom and sister-in-law are built like you; I'll give you guys more of an ass and boobs in exchange for belly fat.
Aw thankies. I'm not real cute right now lol, but I guess I'm allright when I'm physically fit.. I want to apologize if I cam across as pissed... I just read over it and saw that it might sound like that. I just get so frustrated, I mean it seems like even the large women in Hollywood have to look a certain way. That's still not representing all body types, ya know?
Ever think maybe making a very cute baby was worth losing a little bit of a perfect bod? You didn't strike me as pissed, but I agree. All bodies aren't represented, although I don't think there's a particular "beautiful" type. I've always dated people built more like yourself.
Queen Latifah is my hero. Rene Zellwegger (or however you spell it) was absolutely beautiful in both Bridget Jones' Diary movies. I almost cried when I saw her in Chicago.
yeah, it was sad. I still think people like Latifah are beautiful though...there are hardly any really wierd looking females in the business. You know, like a female Rob Schneider or Tom Green
Daria from Daria, Lucy and Ethel from I Love Lucy, Topanga (highschool years of Boy Meets World). I can name alot of normal looking female musicians.
