I don't know what warnings there are to listen to anymore....Either way....Trump or Pence....we are looking at 3+ more years of shit, unfortunately..
Interesting bit I heard on the news today. they were talking about Nixon's impeachment and possible trump impeachment...They said at least Nixon was our criminal.... Yeah, i guess trump makes him even look good.
Exactly. This is much worse as Nixon was caught covering up a spy mission against an opposition political party. The Trump affair involves a hostile foreign power influencing democratic elections around the world. I'll repeat...hostile foreign power. And the possible collusion of American citizens, willingly or unwillingly. This is a global attack on Democracy and the Republicans better wake up and realize they could be next....and it wasn't just Hillary Clinton and her supporters who were affected it's the entire worldwide Democratic system. And it's ongoing.
I was listening to interviews with some Trump supporters in Nashville and they honestly didn’t care what about Trump behaviour or the Russian thing to them it was ‘liberal’ media hysteria and a conspiracy between the Washington establishment and the ‘deep state’ to attack Trump because he wanted to change things. Many don’t seem to even make contact with mainstream news media they get their news from each other and right wing radio. They interviewed one such radio host who said his supporters will judge Trump on his actions and brought up the wall and cutting taxes as the things people cared about not the White House ‘palace intrigues’. But if pushed about the troubles they usually turned to attacks on the news media, the leakers and that Trump should be give the benefit of the doubt and more time to prove himself. Thing that gets me is the hypocrisy of this which I know has been touched on by MeAgain and others but imagine the response of right wingers if this was a liberal or left wing person?
Tax cuts?...and who is that going to go to? The very richest, that is who....! but, Balbus, i know they don't care about any Russian collusion....Trump is their hero no matter what. I have said this all along.
For some reason I meandered over to Trump's facebook page the other day and started reading the comments Holy shit trumpets are insane It goes well beyond your average like/respect for a politician. These people basically worship him and believe he was appointed by God. Oh and a lot of them think Michelle Obama resembles an ape, but of course they're not racist or anything
To get caught up, Trump had asked Comey (who Trump has now called a nut job) to end the investigation of Michael Flynn, revealed classifed info to the Russians, and now must face Comey testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee as well as a special investigative committee on Trump's Russia ties headed by former FBI Director Robert Mueller. It's hard to keep up with all these scandals, they're really piling up. When are the Trump supporters, especially the Republicans, going to admit that this is a ridiculous clusterfuck and it's time to cut your losses and ITMFA (Impeach The Mother Fucker Already)!
You've come to terms that Antifa wasn't a conspiratorial group hired by Breitbart to make college liberals appear violent... I'm so proud of you. But I get what you're saying though. There is ugliness on both sides and I'm aware right wing extremist crazies do exist, and they've definitely made their impact. However, as much as I hate to defend the ugly side of things; have any alt-righters gone to left wing rallies like the Women's March or March for Science, try to go commie bashing and start fights? Why weren't there any crazy right wingers starting riots in every major French city after LePen lost? Regarding your hate crime article, there's been an even bigger spike in fake hate crimes as well. The hijab wearing girl who cried wolf comes to mind, among many others. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/2017/03/05/fake_hate_crimes_404218.html#! http://www.fakehatecrimes.org/ http://www.nationalreview.com/article/374096/eleven-hate-crime-hoaxes-alec-torres
6 So to you the Women’s March and the March for Science were communist marches –AGAIN you seem to want to portray normal people with real concerns as being somehow been some type of far left extremists. And AGAIN you will whine that you didn’t mean that and that you didn’t mean ALL the people at those marches were extremists, but you know some probably were and that means they must ALL accept extremism and on and on and on… I mean for fuck sake is supporting science or women’s rights only a left wing thing - shit come on man are you somehow saying ALL right wingers reject science and want women to know their place? I mean that’s stupid, you can be right wing and love science and respect women. It’s the same MO and it’s still bullshit.
I hate to disillusion you, but I haven't changed my position on Antifa all that much. I've always thought there really is an Antifa. The question is whether or not any group of thugs in black masks who beat people up for exercising their rights to free speech and assembly are Antifa, even if they say they are. If being Antifa means putting on a black mask and being violent, I guess they are, by definition. I think a truly objective person might want to wait until they're unmasked, because agents provocateur are one of the realities of political life. And if you read my earlier posts carefully, you'll see that I never said these were Breitbart or anybody else on the Alt Right, only that it was a possibility they could be alt right. You see, I accept an empirical view of reality in which we hold reasonable positions tentatively on the basis of substantial evidence, and don't jump readily to conclusions. The fact is, we don't know who these people are. How large is Antifa in the United States? Who are its officers? Who are its members? We know who one of the men behind the mask at the anti-Milo demonstration was: the not so famous son of a famous writer, who, like Dad, sported lots of tats. Dad must be proud. The matter seems to have been hushed up quickly, and we don't know much about him or his affiliations, if any. On the surface, Antifa looks like an extremist movement of the Left, along the lines of groups that emerged in the eighties to fight extremists on the right like the skinheads and other neo-Nazis, Anti-racist Action being a prototype. But they might as well be agents provocateur, since their actions provide the wherewithal for right-wing propagandists to tarnish peaceful liberals. But that's beside the point. Your own thinking on the subject seems unreconstructed. You're still doing the one-trick pony act: variations on the fallacy that "some are, therefore all either are or are somehow tainted". When you ask "have any alt-righters gone to left wing rallies like the Women's March or March for Science, try to go commie bashing and start fights?" you disclose the same simplistic view that the thugs at the Berkeley riots were somehow representatives of "the Left", that the milions of women marchers were "commies" and that you've somehow established that the goons who blow up mosques and synagogues are less odious than the black masked crazies who disrupt peaceful gatherings, and that either is somehow relevant to peaceful people on all sides of the political spectrum. As propaganda, this may be effective with a certain audience, but as logic it doesn't hold up.
Okiefreak Exactly this is a very old and well known propaganda con – but this I think is the problem many supporters of Trump seem to fall for such simplistic tricks and I truly wonder why. Is it a matter of wanting to believe trumping rational thought or what? Like that mad idea that anyone protesting against Trumps ideas and policies must have been paid that seemed to be accepted without thought by so many right wingers. I remember a book from a few years back - The Age of American Unreason by Susan Jacoby - i'll have to dig it out again. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/cka/Age-American-Unreason-Susan-Jacoby/1905847661
This is textbook logical fallacy, identified in any standard book on elementary logic under the heading of "faulty generalizations". Why do people fall for them? Because many people are largely emotional, under-educated, too busy to be reflective, and/or, as you say, "wanting to believe trumping rational thought (with emphasis on the trump). This thread is entitled "Will Trump Supporters Listen to the Warnings", and so far, the answer seems to be "No", altough there are signs of buyers remorse. Psychologically, most of us don't like to admit we were wrong; some Trump supporters (I know them personally) are simply not paying attention to the news, or are getting it from Fox,; may still have a gut feeling that the bluster and bravado are signs of strength; or (if any are gazillionaires) are cynically harboring the notion that if they play along with the clown he'll give them their tax cuts and deregulation. Besides Jacoby, we might also look at Richard Hofstadter's Anti-Intellectualism in American Life,; Neil Postman's Amusing Ourselves to Death, Al Gore’s The Assault on Reason, and Andrew Keen's The Cult of the Amateur, But all they will tell us is that we're in deep doodoo. Getting out is the hard part. Last week I asked a friend who is a Trump supporter if he isn't concerned about how Trump would handle an international crisis, e.g,, Kim Jong un. He said, "we live far inland and I wouldn't care if they took out the coasts". I said, "We're not that insulated. If the coasts went, it would be a Mad Max world for us, and the fallout would kill u". He said, "I have a gun". I guess as the M.A.S.H. song goes, "Suicide is painless." But I'd prefer other options.
He has a VERY limited vocabulary in interviews. Everything is a very simple 3 or 4 word statement. I don't know if that's because he truly can not speak any different or because his speeches are written to appeal to a party that does not like smart people. There is a general disdain for education among Republicans. I guess it comes from their base being blue collar coal miner types who maybe did not have the chance at college. "I have the best words". My god what an idiot you clearly do not.
LOL Balbus apparently you didn't catch my metaphor. I laid out the troll bait and you took a bite. I thought you to be a more clever man than that. When I said However, as much as I hate to defend the ugly side of things; have any alt-righters gone to left wing rallies like the Women's March or March for Science, try to go commie bashing and start fights?I I was drawing "commies" a similar metaphor to the radical alt-left's "Bash the Fash" motto. You need not look far to know that Antifa and BAMN are the types of group that'll use violence to silence and intimidate any opposition (by any means necessary). The "Fash" seems to be just about anybody slight right of far left to these people. They go to Trump and Tea Party rallies specifically to Bash the Fash. Hardcore militant rightists have been attributed with fascism. Just as hardcore militant leftists have been attributed with communism. Now, I have met some crazy rightists in my time who believe anyone left of center has communist tendencies. . But have you seen any of these fringe rightists, organized to go to left wing rallies such as the March for Science and the Women's march to bash commies (as they would call these folks)? No, you have not. But you have seen the Clinton campaign pay people $1300 a head to dress as Sanders and Trump supporters to pick fights at Trump rallies though. Nevertheless, I see exactly what you're doing here. It is called Framing and it's the oldest debate trick in the book. You try to frame your opponent as a horrible human being by attributing that people like me do not believe in science or women's rights. You have been trying to frame me as a horrible person because I don't believe a person's skin color or their gender identity should give them special entitlements. The march for science was nothing more than a political stunt. To frame those who question the global warming narrative as science deniers. The women's march WAS only a left wing thing. Why do you think pro-life women not included in the march? They tried and they got blocked. http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/443893/womens-march-pro-life-sponsor-removed I may be pro-choice myself, but they too deserve to have a voice at an all inclusive march for women's rights. Secondly, if the women's march was all about women's rights, why were many of the head organizers, such as Linda Sarsour, supporters of Sharia Law? Women's rights or Sharia Law; you can't have both. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NewVz4iUyZE
Well I guess that means whenever people like Ann Coulter, Ben Shapiro, Gavin McInnes, Christina Hoff Sommers, and every other speaker with a narrative that the college campus safe-spacers deem as "triggering," go to give speeches at colleges, always hire agent provocateurs dressed in red and black to shut down the very events they organize themselves. LOL. Colombia University can't let Milo Yiannopolous give a speech because he's too dangerous, but they have no problem giving Mahmoud Ahnadinejad a podium to speak at a few years earlier. I have no problem with public spaces giving controversial people a podium to speak at, even if it's people who I find absolutely despicable like Shawn King, Linda Sarsour, or Tim Wise. If it's a publicly funded space, let them speak.
I have been listening to Brennan on CNN for the last hour. I like him. It is a shame we can't have someone like that for president....much integrity. he is intelligent and does not get rattled when asked anything. Answers questions calmly....Instead we have to suffer with dirty dealing president DIRTY.
If you read through the posts on the Donald Trump Score Card thread, it'll get you caught up. Hard for anyone to list them al--so much to mention, so little timel. The dude is a walking scandal.
It's kind of like "Trump's a racist, because, Trump's a racist, didn't you know that???????" While I have never cared for Trump, an arrogant blowhard so in love with himself, the wall-to-wall whining about him is really amazing. Personally, I was SO ready to see the US political dynasties fall to the side. Just look how long the Bush and Clinton machines have ruled us. I kinda wanted Bernie since I figured he might lower our profile as the international target of choice. But he let a couple of girls gripe and take his stage from him while he sat down like a whipped puppy. I am also amazed how so many people, even some prominent sorts, think that impeachment is some kind of political holy grail. It's not of course. Instead it's a way to fatten the wallets of lawyers and accomplishes nothing. Nixon could have dragged things out for a long time during impeachment hearings, but he did the right thing and resigned when he was caught dead in the rites. Today it seems more fashionable than sensical to discuss modern politics. So much is driven by feelings alone, which SHOULD be incompatible with the political process as should religion be. But oh well. We have the new faith of "I don't like it so I'm going to protest till someone bleeds" bullshit while the officers of the "Police State" sit around doing virtually nothing about obvious cases. The only thing I "support" about Trump is that he's NOT the Clintons.
