Like all good music Irongoth you must search it out. Come on now does the radio play Phish all the time or how about the Greatful Dead, just to generalize and make it easier the whole Jamband scene. The answer is no, they don't this is not "popular" music to the listening audience. I didn't know about The Grateful Dead until my friend took me to see The Dead up at Alpine Valley, and slowly but surely I searched out this genra of music because I like it. Just like all kinds of music, there is productionized radio music and music that is true and made by the artist. Yes the Yin Yang Twins, Lil Jon, and lets say P-Diddy are all horrible rap artists (although they do know how to make money off of a beat), but what about the Roots I saw them in concerts and they were amazing not only for there musical talents, but also for their lyrics. Have you ever really sit down and tried to listen to skillfull artists such as the Roots, or perhaps even Kanye West? These are both great artist they mastered how to make their own beats and lay down some great meaningfull lyrics. Your just looking at the productionized side of rap, do me a favor listen to the Roots, Kanye West, or 2-Pac (he raps or writes about the life he knew) ,or even listen to a Dj scratch artsist like DJ Logic which infuses some great beats with Jazz. Yes just because you listen to the productionized side of rap doesnt mean that Rap in genral is krap, I mean theres even productionized Rock, or Country or even Blugrass that sucks but it doesnt mean that whole musical genra sucks. -All i have to say too everyone in genrall is go search out the good music, because obviously the good music wont just pop up right infront of you
RE: Have you ever really sit down and tried to listen to skillfull artists such as the Roots, or perhaps even Kanye West? Yes. As you can probably tell from me knowing who all these various folk are I've heard everyone from MC Frontalot to the Sugar Hill Gang, I *HAVE* taken the time to listen to it. Rap is just uninteresting. Talking over a repetitive beat. Yay. I've already SAID that by definition not all rap is garbage. But I mean, though I do like ONE New Age song or two, I can't express my opinion that I'd rather get a root canal than listen to Enya.
Because this thread got nowhere. Everybody's too wrapped up in their own little music world, they don't give anything else the time of day.
if 10000000 people like rap how can it be wrong? and id like to point out i have exactly 13 different genres in my collection, each of which has at least 100 songs!
RE: if 10000000 people like rap how can it be wrong? if 10000000 flies eat sh*t, does that mean it's good to eat?
I like rap, but I think Tupac, Biggie and Big L where the only rappers who actually where hardcore. Suge Knight has L.A Cops on payroll and has a certain territory in L.A.
hell yea man Biggie fuckin kicked ass... bigL was tight.. tupac was alright too i guess... suge knight is just a bitch that fool needs to get the shit kicked out of him or shot a few more times.
now someone comes along and says the opposite- whos right? i like all other music actually- they dont go around shooting each other
nooooooo, you said suge knight etc should die but what if someone agrees with the other side of that arguemtn whos right? thats one annoying thing rock doesent bother with. cept oasis and blur, but they arnt reallu true rock just angry manchester britpop's
what the hell, suge night ect.? nah man I said Suge should get jumped or shot he dosent gotta die thats not cool, he just needs to stop fuckin people over. and if someone argues about it then we are no longer talking about rap musik... we would be arguing about a greedy backstabbing gangster. so who's right?
Isn't that kind of like saying... Two people get in a fight and shoot each other. So suddenly it's okay to generalize all their friends, family, associates, people who either imitate or resemble them in any way, shape or form. It must mean that ALL these people are going to shoot OTHER people TOO! But then you flip around and pick two totally different people out of nowhere. They haven't shot each other yet. So everyone else they know/resemble must be pretty mellow, too. Or burned out. Hey, either one is good. Yeah, you sure know how to blow an ignorant load, sweetheart... Rock icons and rap stars are very similar when you cut it down to the basics. The rockers have had just as many spats amongst themselves as the stars of hip-hop have. It's unfair to both the fans and the artists for you to compare them in such a biased manner. I listen to rap, and that doesn't make me a violent, thuggin' pimpette. I listen to rock, and that doesn't make me a grungy, strung-out crackwhore. It's all a matter of taste. And if you want to know why rap is good, you've got to be open enough to try it... I mean really try it. Don't mentally pick it apart and try to weigh it against any other type of music. You've just got to lay back and let the music guide you... Just like you would for any other type of song. And if it doesn't guide you, don't worry about it. Maybe it's just not your cup of tea. But hey, it's only my two cents.
