Hmmmm. Must try not to get dragged into an argument with jonnyhatesmuslims!!! But this was funny.... Jack Straw's Jewish, but even he can manage less venom than jonny when talking about Muslims. Interesting. I agree with you 100% here, dudette. Demonising an enemy is a way to dehumanise them, thereby justifying our unbridled hostility. It also results in our failing to understand them, which is a sure way of failing to address the real problem. Y'know, I kinda can't. Much as I'm willing to understand them, I also suspect that they're motivation isn't entirely morally pure. There are certainly terrorists who are driven into a corner and act with desperation, but this doesn't necessarily equate with believing they're doing the right thing. Being backed into a corner doesn't prevent people from acting out of greed, hatred and bigotry. I think in this circumstance, it's better to look at what has created an environment that fosters these negative attitudes. And in the spirit of understanding, we should recognise that these are characteristics that we all possess.... we just don't take them to the extreme where we allow them to justify murder.
That's true. And Putin is also a hypocritical wanker with childrens blood on his hands too. I just love watching Chechnya fry in the morning...
According to Popbitch (which is my main source of information ): >> The Virgin Suicides << Are suicide bombers dying for a drink? Suicide bombers are told that their sacrifice will be rewarded in heaven, because the Koran suggests that martyrs get to have sex with 72 virgins. However, an eminent Islamic scholar suggests this is a mistranslation from the Koran of the word “Houri” as Virgin. He's traced the word back to its original Arabic root and says it means grape - or wine. So, even if the Koran is completely correct, the suicide bombers will arrive in heaven to discover that they have slaughtered innocent people in exchange for a couple of chardonnays.
I realise about making people inhuman too not give them no humanity ... just like the germans did with the jews. I don't do that with everything.. but this time i saw what they did and i bi-passed immediatly any notions of these people being anything but evil monsters... their was no 'But' in my thinking at all.
