Black bears are small bear wise. Belive me Ive been hunting the majority of my life. Id never kill a bear unless I had to. But you could take down a black bear with some well aim .22 hollow points. A 9mm or .38 magnum is a one shot kill.

This is a very interesting thread.

As for humans vs. animals... animals are purer than most humans because they simply are, they do not conceptualize and struggle the way that we do. That's why animals are for the most part completely sane, and humans are for the most part completely insane

Here's the kicker though... even though thought, language and concepts mislead us so much, you have to have these things to be able to transcend them. Humans are capable of transcending this life and perfecting it beyond what any animal ever could. So, the best humans are better than the best animals, but most humans are below animals in my opinions, because they have all of the powers and intellect that comes with being being a human, yet they abuse the power and don't know how to empathize, how to let go, etc.

As for the meaning of life... I agree with the poster who said that we give it meaning. First, we have to define "meaning" - what is "meaning" anyway? If "meaning" means that something has to be "behind" this life, then it seems there can be no meaning unless you believe in "God" of some sort. However, I do not think this is the case, I think that life can have meaning in the present moment, for no reason other than that we exist, consciousness exists, love exists, beauty exists. By letting life flow through you, it will come to mean more and more as time goes by, at least in my experience.

And finally, as for the religion-bashing, I have certainly felt that way myself before, but keep in mind that one who says all religious belief is stupid is just as ignorant and is closing off his mind just as much as someone who says that all non-religious belief is stupid. Why close your mind? What is it about "religion" that is so bad? Is it that the beliefs come from far in the past, so automatically they are untrustworthy? Is it that God can't be proven to exist? Is it because so many people abuse religion? All of these are legitimate points, but not nearly enough to discredit all religious belief as foolish.

All this stuff is bullshit too, man. Thats why you need to live in your head, thoughts and dreams, surround yourself with love. The rest is trivial. Live in this world, do your job or whatever, but don't let this stuff impact what's really important. You dont need to be on a commune to be free, it's all in your head, you could be in prison and be free if you are content in your mind. Keep searching your soul, you're on the right path.

Innovation does not prove that we are a smarter species, if anything innovation proves the opposite. People say necessity is the mother of all inventions. Humanities main necessity being survival drives us on a path inventing and improving on ways to stall our individual death, with out seeing that our innovations are working to more quickly end humanity as a whole by throwing off the delicate balance of nature. There for animals who rely on evolution, natural selection and adaptation to guide them are smarter than humans who rely on technology that comes at a lose of comprehension for the bigger picture. We are the only species to consciously fear our own mortality and this is our fatal flaw. The harder we work to survive the sooner we will exhaust the very world witch provides for us life.

 

The main thing that separates us from other mammals is the cerebral cortex, which gives us advanced emotional and reasoning abilities. Its the topof our brains and has evolved with humanity. Some say through the use of psychedelics.

The other animals are restricted to thje more primitive "lower" brain function at best, like the amygdala. Our eyes are also hardwired to those areas, which is why a lot of people react dramatically from visual stimuli. But still we have the option to send the information up through our cortex, in other words think and rationalize abotu something. Psychedelics increase activity in the cortex.

I'm not a geneticist or anything, but I did take high school biology last year, and I don't believe that psychedelics could possibly have affected hominid evolution in any way. Sure individuals who used them may have enhanced activity in the cerebral cortex, but that doesn't carry over into the gene pool. That would be like saying if two people cut off their arms and then conceived a child together, the child would be born with one arm.

See in my point of view, there is no god and that every thing evolved form organisms and shiz. After watching that cute show, Meerkat Manor, I recently realised that humans are totally retarded. On MM the animals go through the emotions I believe humans should go through. Well... kinda...

 

Well I meant it more in the context of the drugs activated parts of the brain causing changes in thinking, which causes change in behavior. I didnt mean that psychedelics caused genetic changes directly, but they have been part of the evolution process.
