Thanks, bookmarked that page. I have L-theanine and Valerian Root here, maybe I need to try some mixtures of different herbs.

I'm sorry Orison, I never answered your question about caffeine. Yes, I drink diet coke all day long. No coffee, just diet coke all day.

Well, I think I finally kicked my sugar habit, I was eating a lot of sugar every day. I want to quit smoking cigs, but maybe the caffeine will have to be next on the list, as I think that will be easier to stop than nicotine.

You should look at the possible effects of aspartame on anxiety disorders. Diet Coke uses aspartame as a sweetener and anxiety is one of the symptoms of aspartame poisoning. Not saying that is the only root to your anxiety and I'm also no doctor, so I can't say that cutting back on the Diet Coke will for sure do anything, but it might not hurt.

    Interesting...
What I need is something like juice in a can, because I think the only reason I always drink diet coke is because of the convenience factor of the can. I guess there is bottled water, but water is just tasteless and sucks.

I've been on my high horse about aspartame ever since I linked it to the horrible headaches I was getting when I drank my dad's diet sodas or chewed my grandma's sugar-free gum. I even got my diabetic dad to start weeding out the aspartame. I'd rather he eat small amounts of real sugar than continue putting that stuff in his body. Just have heard way too many bad things about that shit. Last time I had to call the Coca-Cola hotline for work-related purposes, their hold message tells all about how safe aspartame is. I laughed and had I not been 5 minutes from getting off my shift, I would have given the rep a piece of my mind.

When I'm trying to ween off the sodas but not give up flavor, I drink apple juice. It's supposed to be better at waking you up than coffee (not sure where I heard that), but I haven't found that to be true, lol.

It's good that you kicked sugar. There is a good book called sugar blues that talks in depth about the effects sugar has on depression. There is some interesting research on artificial sweets. Not proven but some believe that they could cause neurological problems. Some natural fruit juice might be a better choice. Eating right getting proper sleep and exercise can help a lot. I am a big beleiver in meditation and hobies, exercise ( martial arts for me) to help with anxiety. Any kind of distraction that requires you to be fully present in can help. Anyway, it sounds like you are well aware of how things effect you. What helps and what doesn't. Your rational for Xanax sounds compleatly reasonable, ballanced and well thought out. But doc's are so suspicious of informed patients these days. Obviously the more you can use alternatives to medication the better. I dont know your doctor and some doctors once they get an idea in there head it can be hard to change it. It might help to have a friend come with you to advocate on your behalf. The decision to use medication in recovery is a personal decision noone should ever be pressured one way or the other. Hope you feel better soon. Sorry for any typos using my phone which is a pain on these forums.

That was uncharacteristically short for me and I would add more but I'm too busy banging my head against the wall.

I don't see how any of this is related to the original post or helping her overcome her anxiety.
