jeffrey is necessary however, lets just be happy hes a and pradictable character that we can rely on keeping a hook to swing around. wihtout pedants, the world would fall apart.

not that this is necessarily a bad thing but some level of intelligence in grammar and language is necessary. it only needs a hook though, and thats jeff.

you know, people who cannot spell properly, in my eyes are inferior. I look to them as a bit uneductated, maybe didnt try too hard in school, or had a rough time with learning... I know there are always exceptions, like people who have dyslexia, I can see how hard it could be for them to read and write... other than that, I feel its pure laziness. I dont only criticize people here, but people in the real world that cannot spell the simplest of words.... I give a manager at the store a rough time because he cant spell the easiest words... I can understand if you cannot spell zucchini right, but tomatoes?? or anything simple?? its just my nature. I am a virgo.

Thanks for seeing it my way. :)

    Whatever, dude.

That's never been my assertion. Just because I criticize the spelling and the grammar (and NOT every time it is warranted: only when it's really pathetically bad do I bother) doesn't mean I am asserting that I'm THE spelling and grammar check. Anyone could do it. Others have criticized the same things as I have, and been criticized for opening their mouths about how poorly some people write their posts here. It seems that the only freedom to criticize that you and the others value is the freedom to criticize criticizers. It's like that cliche about being "intolerant of intolerant people."

And the people whom I criticize are just as quick to get their panties in a bunch as you say I am. Why shouldn't I now complain that everyone I criticize is quick to get all upset?

No, I don't wear women's underwear. I hate underwear, and don't wear any.

Years ago, I used to be much worse about giving people shit about their online spelling and grammar. I don't give a fuck if you people believe me or not, but I've actually toned it down.

Go and look at the vast majority of my posts (the ones that are not just forced replies to criticisms of me for this very subject) and you'll find that I generally do NOT mention people's spelling and grammar.

There are two easy ways to stop getting bothered by it. Either stop reading my posts, and skip on past; or learn how to fuckin' write intelligible English.

Holy shit, I'm a Virgo too!

You know what's funny, though? My dad is a VERY intelligent man, but when he sits down to write me emails, they're fraught with typos and incorrectly used words! LOL!

Have you all stopped to realize that my JOB is "proofreader," and it's kinda like when someone is a COP, and then starts to see all people as either bad guys, or potential bad guys?

How 'bout you live up to your hippie names, and cut me some slack. I thought you're supposed to be compassionate and loving. Hate the sin, not the sinner, etc. Apparently you're very choosy about whom you are forgiving toward, and which kinds of faults you forgive.

I only really care if its the spelling thats wrong and i can see its not just a typo. mainly when people go like 'would of' instead of 'would have', caus that sorta thing just shows they dont know their language, but if its typos i dont really care unless i cant read what theyre saying, but that doesnt piss me off, they just havnt connected anythin with me, i dont care.

usually if theres a word i dont know how to spell (like complex or unusual words that ive never had to write before) ill look it up

well I think the thread that pretty much sparked this thread, was the one that was titled "has any of you ppl ever travelled any wear". I would say that the typos in that sentence is pretty much the least concern.

Typos that change the meaning of a word are annoying. That thread still catches my eye and makes me go 'Eh?' when it shows up in the active threads, and I wish people would take the time to edit such errors. But I can understand that people don't bother to edit all their typos or backspace all the time. Sure, it's lazy, but if it doesn't change the meaning of the word, I personally don't care.

Yes, exactly. Doesn't it make you go "WTF?!"

I mean, as far as I am concerned, this being an informal internet forum is NOT an excuse for just letting all intelligence and coherent writing ability fall to the wayside! And there is NO excuse for being so near-illiterate that you can't tell the difference between "anywhere" and "any wear"!!

Really. What can someone possibly offer besides, "I'm stupid," or "I'm lazy" to explain such an error?

But when someone like me points out such errors and asks, "WHYYYYYY?!" he is made out to be some kind of ogre.

Does anyone think that progress is made in the world by people who can't manage to write clearly, or master their own language? If you're hoping for a cure for cancer, or a rocket ship to explore new worlds, do you really think those things are going to come from people who write like, "im 2 lazzy 2 rite w/the rite spellngs ne-way"?

So if someone does write that way, and wants to BE anything in the world, they're going to have to grow up, and move past the kitschy-ness of writing that way, the "youthful 'cool'" of it notwithstanding, and start writing like an intelligent adult.

We'll really be in for it if the masses of lazy stupid people truly start to outnumber the people of decent intelligence to the point where the intelligent ones fear the backlash of pointing out egregious errors, and have to hide the fact that they can write properly.

lol 'has any of you travelled any wear' is a blatant example of lack of knowlege of the language you speak.
