sorry but i don't know where you got any of these ideas. whoever told you that was misinformed. the woodstock festival wasn't even a gleam in anyone's eye in 1967, so this had nothing to do with who decided what. david bowie was NOT a known entity at the time...he was still davy jones and if he had any notoriety at all it was because he was being confused with davey jones the monkee (the reason BOWIE changed his name).the summer of love began with "be-in"s as they were called in a few major cities on saturday march 25 the day before easter in 1967. they had been happening in san fransico for awhile and on that easter weekend los angeles, new york and s.f. all had huge ones in their respective park areas. not sure about chicago, miami or any other city but i think they had them too. i was at the new york city one in sheeps meadow. "the summer of love" was something that it was called or named by the media and that's why it's called that today. i don't think you could have gotten 3 people on a "committee" to decide anything back then...we were against committees of any kind and way too stoned....:+) btw..i saved the los angeles free press from the weekend before the monterey pop festival..here's the listing for it in the "what's happening" section of that paper. i was visiting my cousin in l.a. and she refused to hitch up there to go with me. i should have gone by myself. ...shoulda,woulda,coulda. listing: front page:
That's not the way Artie Kornfeld recalls it, and he was co-founder of Woodstock69. You were 9 yrs old and had friends that coordenated Woodstock, wow you started young didnt you Cowpie?!? The Summer of Love was a last celebration of The Haight, as she fell prey to the negative vibes that started flowing in. The Death Of The Hippie 67' soon followed.
