But from a historical side jesus was from a back water province. was poor, probably unkempt. This might be a pretty realistic idea of what poor galileans dressed like. Especially in contrast to the high societal standing of Pilate dressed in his nice robes. I know this was not probably the intent of the artist, but isn't liveing a Christian faith supposed to b slightly scary? look at what Jesus challenged us to do. i doa gree that this painting is very iconoclastic, but I do not think it is nessecarily antiChristian. I find great comfort when I remember that Jesus faced many of the same temptations (as all humans do) I face day to day.
nah he looks antagonistic to me, and the way the artist depicted him, If you hadn't told me it was Jesus I would assume it was some sort of dark entity. but that's the beauty of art huh? same picture, two totally different views.
Yeah, I really like it too. Especially because my man JC is in the dark and Pilate is in the light. I love the position of Pilate's hand. He doesnt look bad or anything . It just looks like he's trying to figure things out. Quod est veritas, right ? And Jesus looks so peaceful and calm and free, yet tired and poor and dirty. Like theres no need for him to say anything... Okay, I'm babbling now. Lol. :leaving:
I think Jesus looks pissed off! I bet he never would have imagined that spreading his word would have involved killing so many people!
I think he looks a little pissed off too ... in fact a look of contempt. Heaven knows what Pilate is saying to him?
yeah that's what i was thinking liquidlight. btw, maybe Im stupid but what does "quod est veritas" mean?
It also seems like the artist cleaned jesus up a little bit in this painting. Upon meeting pilate for the first time, Jesus was already beaten and bloody to a pulp almost.
I don't understand it, but I do know it exists. My dad is Catholic (my two youngest brothers were recently baptized), so I know a bit about Catholicism. It doesn't seem like a faith that deserves to be hated.
