Why is heroin so scathed by even the most promising of recreational drug users?

Nyxx, where are you located on the planet? If someone was found nodded out at a stop sign there would almost certainly be dui charges as well as paraphenalia/possesion charges after the subsequent search and seizure.

Easy to judge , when you havent walked a mile in our moccasin's ,isnt it-

To lump all people with heroin addiction into the same category, as lying, thieving, scum shows me that your very uninformed about addiction- -which is fine, most people arent that knowledgable about the subject or care to be..
The difference is - most people have the good sence and compassion to realize that this is not the life we chose when we 1st tried dope. Most people realize the pain, guilt, and worthlessness that the heroin addict feels is a very real thing- You have no idea of the story behind the person-
and the struggles we may have went thru and continue to go thru- as battling a heroin addiction is something I wouldnt wish on anyone

I guess your entitled to your opinions, but you are the person ,all addicts fear they will deal with when they hopefully get clean- close minded,no compassion, and whose trust can never be won back. Just makes the journey through the cycle of addiction harder, when we cant look for a little understanding in the end- -especially from someone on hipforums

It's the perfect excuse to do bad things. "Yeah I did some fucked up shit cause I needed my heroin..." or "yeah I killed that person for a fix". It's a secondary reason for a primary reason, of which usually is a bad reason.
