Why is heroin so scathed by even the most promising of recreational drug users?

Putting slavery and segregation back into effect? Revoking womens right to vote? No right to a fair trial? No right to privacy or legitimate search and seizures? Whatever 'The Man' decides is best for the agenda of their own personal gain is first priority. Let's change the morals and ethics that many brave men/women have died for founding this country and its independence/rights.

As a great American hero once said "Give me liberty, or give me death"! Down with the oppression, 10,000 fists in the air!!!!

You may think so, but having stuff illegal is what gives the power to the black market. And with a power struggle comes more death and destruction than your so called 'dead bodies in an alley'. I havent seen roving gangs of whiskey dealers that go around shooting and terrorizing to keep their territory. Oh wait, it was like that with alcohol, in the 10 years it was PROHIBITED. There was more bloodshed during prohibition than any drug war ever. Alcohol was illegall, but people still drank. They raised the prohibition ban, and made the alcohol industry have standards, quality control, and an alcohol tax in place. There was no longer a bloody power struggle. But wait, alcohol was illegal and bad and wrong, then the next year it was legal, ok, and you weren't a criminal anymore? Do you catch my drift? Look at weed, that was the devils weed, but now it is becoming legal, decriminalized, and taxed in Cali and other places? But it's ok now, the government needs more money, so lets tax weed.

Point is you can't listen to people who say something is horribly bad and evil one second, but decide they need to tax something to make money, so they legalize the very stuff they wasted billions of dollars fighting just so they can make some fast money. Its the classic supply and demand, people want drugs, their going to do drugs, and they don't care about the words legal/illegal. Just legalize, put a quality control in place, and make the product affordable. No more billions of dollars wasted fighting a war that can't be won. But wait, theres more. Now they are gonna loose money because they cant put people in jail and fine the hell out of them, and they can't take your possessions and drug money to use themselves now. Legal or illegal don't matter to the government, in the end its whichever puts more money in their pockets. Think about what really goes on in this country, not the media news and false propoganda they feed the masses to lull them into a false sense of security and sleep.

It's the hardest drug to use in a responsible manner, and should you fail to do so it's the one that's gonna fuck you up the worse.

A prime example that the dangers of a drug are multifold upon prohibition.

I wouldn't exactly say that. When was the last time you saw someone on heroin fly into a blind rage over something petty, or decide to blow stop signs and do 100mph down the highway? Happens all the time on booze.
P-Fromit, whats the point you are trying to get across? I'm having a little trouble understanding what you are getting at.

There are very few recreational heroin users, and they dont stay recreational users for too long- - The long explanation has to do with your endorphins, and pleasure centers in your brain shuting down when you are the one filling that void with heroin
Dope turns you into a person that you dont even know * * *

Ive been on a methadone clinic for better than 20 yrs- -you dont even want to hear the stories that led up to that.- But it did save me, However the stigma continues with that drug too- even though technically its a treatment and for the most part not abused
Life is too short- dope can fuck up any and all plans- it aint worth the drama
    be careful out there

Excuse me, you seem to have made a mistake and listed DMT and mushrooms as vices.

You can't just go around saying that just because someone uses one substance over another they are automatically going to be turned into a piece of trash. I know plenty of people that don't do drugs but still go around doing said things. Basically you are setting a stereotype, I suppose you think every black person is gonna rob you too jpflex.

I had some trouble posting that one so not everything was included. But the jist of it is is that the fact that heroin is illegal is what creates the stigma differential between what the natural dangers of the drug is compared to the real and perceived dangers of the drug. The lack in labeling the drug concentration and the lack of quality control make using the drug much more risky. Take something like oxycontin which has a stigma but not nearly as bad as heroin, the differential stigma is simply because of the legality status. If it is illegal there are no pharmaceutical standards that are designed to insure that you know what you are getting (and should be advised as to proper dosage). Now as to whether it has a worse image then other hard drugs. That is debatable. I think it is the imagery of i.v. injection that gives lots of people the willies. Popular imagery is also that of the most run down unsanitary conditions. Perhaps such imagery coincides with reality more then we would like, but would the situation not improve once the US admits they will never irradicate the drug and that current policy imposes severe peril above and beyond the drug itself.

pharfromit, very excellent post. You got your words across rather nicely. It was very 'refreshing' to see a post with some thought put into it rather than hear another rant about how all heroin users are junkie thieving fags.

It was implied as a male derogatory term through your bashing Jplex, not an actual statement of someone being homosexual.

I don't like you people with your puff the magic dragon bull shit. Any drug can be turned into something bad but some drugs are more easy to take advantage of. Some drugs take advantage of you. If that's not how it is for you, then fine, good on you but don't just tell everyone else that they can dive head into that sheeeeet.

    I. Don't. Trust. Dragons.
