Sure. But that's how it's always been. Always will be. Transgression is open to anyone who takes delight in risk.
sex hasn't always been tabboo. mostly just since the onslaught of patriarchal property systems. how funny that you guys realls bit yourselves in the asses with that one.
I did not read this whole thread.. People still use "virgin" in the sense of insulting someone, thought that was only in the 80's that people did that....People get with the century and start using foreplay and second base as insults... Virgins rule..And so do whores...Everyone wins...
bloody mary's have been around longer. british thing, i think. not necessarily (that anyone can prove) referring to bloody mary, the queen who slaughtered so many people.
The incest taboo might date from Neanderthals. So, no. It seems sexual taboos are quintessentially human. But what is also quintessentially human is the festival, insurrections, and war: when those taboos are temporarily lifted. And patriarchal property systems predate humanity in most mammals.
not so much. though, yes, the incest taboo is not that which i'm referring to. i'm referring to the so-called destruction of human civilization by "allowing" women to have sex where they choose. not all pre-modern societies were patriarchal in property, the matriarchal cultural structures were very successful, as were those societies in which both males and female could own property. in such cases, sexual freedom for women was much more than norm than monogamy.
I do acknowledge variations. But notice that men were also never entirely free to have sex. Only to transgress norms with milder punishment.
it's true. in matriarchal societies, they could spawn as many children as they liked without having to put for the effort in raising them. their children were raised by the woman's family and provided for by the men of that family. property passed along through the females, which makes awesome sense, since women were able to know who their children were for SURE, whereas there's no real proof that any given child was any particular males. this granted women a great deal more sexual freedom, since their virginity and monogamy didn't have to be jealously gaurded to ensure the property progression through the male line. you also didn't get nuisance behaviors like the mother in law problem (on both sides) and t0o many hens in the henhouse as happen frequently when a new woman is brought into the household. i know this for a fact, because despite my best efforts to be rational, there's no woman EVER who's been able to stand against the united alpha front of myself, my mother and my sister. my poor brothers. even when we're nice, we scare them away.
Um. I know what you're saying. Though in anthropological circles the idea of matriarchal societies is pretty much defunct. They call it some other term which escapes me. There still exist societies in which property is passed on through the female lineage. Those are still a far cry from "matriarchal" in the sense that patriarchal is patriarchal.
well, right, but what you carry on your back is pretty much yours. there's no denying that might makes right in most places.
