If they won't hire you because of a tat, why would you want to work for them anyway? Ha. Yah it sucks when something you do becomes trendy. As long as you don't change it to intentionally look un-trendy. That's just self-defeating.

And some companies won't hire you if you're female, a color other than white, gay, or not christian, and dont forget pregnant, married or a parent.

There are lots of good reasons for people to get a tatoo, such as that described in the post below, or for ceremonial reasons. However, the current fad is rather sad. Tatoos now tend to demonstrat one's conformity.

Tats with fine detail and lots of colors display a lack of temporal awareness. Simple designs can remain asthetically pleasing for decades, but the complex stuff just looks bad as the years pass.

Piercings, like tats, are used in important symbolic ways, but they almost always repulse me and make me wonder why someone would not respect their body more. Just another point of irritation and infection! The sexual piercings are the silliest. It shows that the person does not have much sex, or they would realize how much such things can cause recurring health issues. For the vast majority of sheeple, they would never have enough sex to matter, so the distortion only makes them feel better for lack of the real thing.

In my view, the body can not be improved by "modifications" It is perfect as constructed and only gets worse with asthetic tinkering. I have had loves with and without tats and piercings. It is their choice and i adore their form either way, but i prefer a natural woman. My Christa does not even have pierced ears.

PS: for those who flamed the original poster for not being in the appropriate forum, get real! This is "body modification". The description of the forum says that it is for discussion of that topic. that is exactly what our original poster did.

Tattoo's can be done tastefully in color. I think a lot of it is ugly when it's extreme. If sensable people thought about placement as well as what they were putting on their body, they would learn,--in stages--, what fit with them and their aura. I always take a long time (years) before I modify my body and have done it tastefully.

I respect my body more then just about anyone I know. I'm very modest about things and take care of myself. I have never gotten an infection and I have piercings in: my nose, tongue, vertical labret, 2 lip rings, 2 holes in each ear and one tattoo.

That has to be the most ridiculous argument yet.

I have two genital piercings, both of which were given
    ritually, in religious dedication.

Not only do i have sex, it is the embodyment of a large
    part of my spiritual practices.

I have sex up to 14 times a week at times, sometimes
several times a day. No infections ever.

They hurt like hell to get, and sometimes can bug me, but
that is part of the dedication. To sacrifice my own
pain in reverance and worship of the Divine Feminine.

You may think it silly, but who are you to judge my
sexual life based on what I do to myself.

You do have to admit that you have to be very skilled and in demand to be tattooed and have a job in an office setting. I know of lots of people with long shaggy hair/bears/tattoos that work in an office setting. All of them highly trained I.T. (plus it's easy to stick all the I.T. guys in the basement and out of the publics eye)

You would have a harder time landing a position in P.R. or somthing of that nature. Not that I agree with that...Just saying :)

A lot things are about appearance. Companies have to pander to the clients or potential clients. This means, regardless of their personal feelings, they might have to go with more cleanly looking people. I have tatts, i volunteer at at primary school and wear a bandage over my arm just in case a parent doesn't like it. It doesn't bother me though, i got my tatt for me and i respect all views.

Fortunatly for me, I dont like dealing with people, so PR
would be out even if i look liked Bill Gates lol.

I think the point should be that rather than not tattooing yourself
to get a "good job", the good jobs, and society in general
to stop being so goddamned judgemental, that way it wouldnt
    matter how different we look.

I saw a photo once, of an older man, 60 maybe, in New Zealand.
He was Maori, and had the full facial tattooes. He was sitting
in a cafe, full business suit, reading the Wall Street Journal.

Apparently, in New Zealand, they dont make you be a trash
man if you want a tattoo.

I'm an office manager/trainer/supervisor in a flagging/security business. With my piercings, I can take them out and put retainers in if needed (in my newer piercings). I plan on getting at least 4 or 5 more tats (all turtle related as it is my spirit animal in my beliefs). The thing about the tats are that I will place them so I can at least wear pants and a short sleeve shirt to cover them. It's not about what you do and don't have, it's how someone presents their tats. If the tat fits the person and isn't put there for rebelling or fad and is done tastefully, most won't frown upon it too much. If you want a tat think of the kind of work you'd be getting into. The cruder jobs (like those in construction) often are the most leiniant jobs for peircings and tats.

I guess I'm lucky. I have a nice job that I love doing and I'm allowed to be myself 100%.

[font=&quot]Each to their own! I have known of many cases of serious trouble resulting from such piercings. I judge for my self, not the practice of others. In my view, pain is not anything that honors the divine feminine. If that is your path great, but it will never be mine. Pleasure is how we honor the divine feminine, and alterations of this perfect body do nothing but hinder my ability to give and experience pleasure. Heron, we both practice a spiritual path that uses sex as a central element, we just approach from different directions. My frequency of sex is a bit higher than yours, but that is not all that relevent. My spiritual path does not require any pain, fear or sacrifice. Love, beauty and pleasure are the tools i use to focus the will. Honoring the natural perfection of the goddess made manifest, is my way. The less altered, the more beautiful, and the more capable of realizing the full spectrum of pleasure. Despite your personal experience, a high percentage of sexual piercings cause problems for one or both partners. My bet is that you will eventually discover this reality for yourself. i hope that you do not ever have any of the problems that have plagued friends and associates.

Actually it makes perfect sense, I was pointing out the historical context of tattoos, and sharing my opinion on them. These people who get 'OM' tattoos who don't even get the mystical connotations of such a symbol shouldn't bastardize the symbol and do disrespect unto it by wearing it for the wrong reasons. The proliferation of this symbol among people just looking for a "cool" design cheapen its meaning. You don't see Jews or Muslims with calvary crosses tattooed on their arms, do you?

Im sure they do....do you know every Jew or Muslim?

All I am saying is I understand your opinion, but I just think me personally I dont give a crap what people do to their bodies or what tattoos they get. And I certainly dont take it upon myself to tell them they only got it to be "cool" What business of it is mine, why would I care that much about what someone has a design/symbol on their body, and why would I tell them they shouldn't have it. Shouldnt tell people they can or cannot get a symbol or design because they will disrespect it, that sounds really lame. You dont know why people get certain tats and you shouldnt really make it your place to tell them they are wrong or trendy in doing so..imo
Does it matter to you that much?
these are just merely my thoughts and opinion on the matter...

    I agree with shroom.

And would like to add testimony to it.

Most people who get a tattoo for trend
used to get tweety birds or tazs, or some
    cutesy cartoon right?

So one would assume it would be something
    they will come to regret.

WELL i have a friend, hard core biker
type tattoo artist, full of ancestoral
tats and all sorts of spiritual and meaningful
    art.

On his leg is Tigger. Cause his baby boy
    loves tigger.

Will he regret that? never, but it LOOKS
like it could be in that same group of people.

What i am saying, is that you dont know
why they got it, regardless of how it
    appears.

My tat that I just got is Squirt the baby turtle from Finding Nemo. My spirit animal happens to be the turtle. Will I regret it? Never. Is it meaningless? No, it has more meaning behind it then my peircings and I wouldn't trade those for the world.

    Just another example of this.

Y'know, the OP was by LSD seeker.
I know a lot of party hampsters who trip, and figure they are wasting theri time and some good chemicals.
Some people go to psychedelics with an attitude of reverence, or at least some hope for insight.
So too, with body art of all kinds. Maybe kid A has a tat on his bicep because he overcame or experienced something profound. THen Kid B sees it and thinks it's cool. So he gets it.
Did Kid B detract from Kid A's experience in any way?

Does a gay marriage detract from a straight marriage's commitment?

My sweetie has an OM amongst his tats. Never was Hindu. It's the universal vibration, the only sound that really exists.
So someone sees it, likes it, gets it. Maybe it has less personal meaning to her/him, BUT someone sees it, Om means something to that person, and that person refocuses their energy on what ever OM reps to them...

Over all not a bad thing, I'd say...
