Why the hell can't someone get tatts and not show them to the world. Remind me why it is the world's business?
no, what i am saying is if you want concealed tattoos more power to ou...if others like myself want visable tattoos dont preach the hypocracy of the crappy materialism we face in this country and tell people they should only get concealed tattoos....if someone has a tattoo on lets say their back and they tell someone who has a neck tattoo that its wrong, come on thats an obvious case of the pot calling the kettle black.
i can see where this guy is coming from - we wernt born with them but i can also see why people love them, and pearcings. yeah
i happen to have a huge tribal tattoo on my lower back. I didn't have it done to look cool, how can a tatoo make you look cool if almost everyone has one?, The rose in the middle of my tattoo represents the chakra that is related the emotional identity, the element of water and sexuality. It symbolises my female spirit and my sexuality. Also I had it done when i turned 20, as a way of breaking up with my teenage years. I thought it was the best place to have a tattoo because i dont particularly like tattoos on the tummy, besides it's too painful to have it done there and i can easily hide it when i have to. It seemed reasonable at the time and i dont regret having it done at all.
i hoped by now people have been more open to different ways.........why cant people just except others as they are..... if they want that tat and later regret it, thats their problem .... not yours... no disrespect man, but come on...... give it up
Tattoos have been used sinced the beginning of time, our ancient Britonic ancestors chiseled tatts into themselves using a blue dye from the woad plant. Every culture has practiced tattooing, the early Xians tattooed crosses on their arms and faces. Gnostic Christian tribes in Egypt and the Middle East still do this. I have a tattoo of the eye of Ra in black done on my back, and am planning to get "Kali Das" written in Sanskrit devanagarii script on my pectoral muscle. I oppose tattoos that look too garish and adulterate the body rather than ornament it. And I oppose people getting tattoos because they look cool and don't have a goodly knowledge of their meaning.
We weren't born with them so we shouldn't have them? We weren't born with our ears pierced, a tan, freckles, scars, plucked eyebrows, coloured hair either.
Man, you guys . . . I don't see the original poster as forbidding anyone from getting tattoos or complaining about their existence in general. I think he's just saying that a lot of times he doesn't find them attractive. I think tatts look great on guys when they're simple and relatively small, but I somewhat agree with him--I kind of think it takes away from a girl's beauty. No offense to any of you girls out there with tattoos. And just because they've been done for thousands of years does not mean that many tattoos are not just for fashion. This is a hippie forum and I'd expect most of you to have tattoos that mean something important to you, but I know and have seen plenty of people who just get silly designs because they think it's cool or looks hot. But to each his own. If you like tattoos and really think about what you're getting, enjoy them. They're a great way to hold onto the important things that have happened in your life.
um, how can you say you are for tattoos and all this stuff, but then say you oppose tattoos that look a certain way just cause you dont like them, doesnt mean they shouldnt have them... you should just be concerned with yourself and whats on your body and leave other people alone who want what they want just cause you dont care for it or think they only got it to be "cool" but your statement doesnt really make sense....
Tattoos on the small of the back are the worst. A woman's lower back is one of the most sensual places on her body; it doesn't need embellishment. It's tacky and trite. Imagine getting a Members Only jacket in '85 with the stipulation that you could never take it off.
I didn't have time to read all 12 pages just now but I promise I will later. Just wanted to say something basic. I thing tattooing is a beautiful artform. Whoever first thought of using the body as a canvas was a brave and creative person. I would personally never get a tattoo because it's trendy or cute or whatever, but if other people do, what's the harm? They can buy a trendy hat and no one cares. They can dye their hair to fit in and no one cares. Who cares if a company won't hire you based on a tattoo? I have turned down job offers because they want me to take out a piercing or two. And it's not because I can't live without my piercings. It's because I don't need a job with a corporation who is so uptight that they won't allow body modification. Personally, I have 4 tattoos and they all mean something very very special to me. They are daily reminders to myself, as well as a way for me to show the world the strength in my convictions. Maybe some people don't understand that. But for anyone who thinks it's wrong or vulgar, or just a trend, all I have to say is that my body is my temple and I'm the only decorator, so I'll decorate it how I choose.
I don't think it's right to 'oppose' tattoo's; people should be free to do whatever they want with their own bodies, whether you like it or not. Don't want one, don't get one on your own skin, but leave others free to get one (or a whole lot of 'm) when they want to.
As a 17 year old, you must know lots about being a professional. I am a professional, worked (before the hurricane) for the largest casino company in the world, in their corporate offices, with button ups and suits, with my bold tattoos, stretched lobes, chest length beard, and everything. I do hate trends with a passion though, and when the lobe streching started, it pissed me off because I look trendy lol. But being professional has nothing to do with it.
One of my tattoos is of an Ionic Cross. However, I am now atheist. But, I am not going to cover it up, because it was part of who I was, like a path to lead to who I am.
RE: I am a professional, worked (before the hurricane) for the largest casino company in the world, in their corporate offices, with button ups and suits, with my bold tattoos, stretched lobes, chest length beard, and everything. The poster has a point - there are certain companies that will not hire you .
