As with most every kind of music, I can find some things I enjoy. Yeah, metal is usually a bit gloomy for my tastes but I can still enjoy some good guitar riffs. I recently heard this album that seemed decent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoPg8zFSydU"]YouTube - Altar of Oblivion - Sinews of Anguish
Oh well, first of all I don't see metal music and the metal scene as the same thing. Second, neither seems to be overtaken by the emerge of new musicgenres/scenes to me? Last but not least, if you let your preferences in music ruin by the negative aspects of a scene you're stupid.
Well heck... if combining brutal blastbeats, saxophones and spaghetti western themes isn't a new idea, then what is?
Lots of new ideas are worked out since 1995. Just because the newer ideas like emo, indie and whatever kind of metalcore emerged on the scene doesn't say anything about the innovation of other metalbands.
I know you did not just say that!!! :argue: *edit* well I should stay on topic, there is still some good metal but metal has really left the mainstream, at least here in New England, so you have to dig for it.
I was pretty big into metal until about 2006, it's a dead end genre with no room for development. It's been taken as far as it can go and imo it can't go any further. sure people have been borrowing from other genres recently and theres been more synths and stuff... but if i want to listen to heavy music now, I'll listen to dubstep. less cheese, more innovation, less wankery, less homosexuality posing as alpha male-ism.
You could level all those criticisms at every type of music ever made. And you should, because it's true. Not only for metal.
