stupidest thing i've ever heard in my life. That's like asking why white people listen to rap music.

music isn't made for any particular sort of person dumdum.

I agree with the above post, have you heard the shit they try to call music these days. Lame. I only listen to stuff from the 60's and 70's because it's not systematic music, all sounding the same, produced by money hungry corporations who push their artists to sing like they're having orgasms in my ear, and rub baby oil all over themselves at every public appearance cuz THAT sells more. ALSO----THEY ALL SANG LIVE. ugggghhhh im gonna go shit something big. What a stupid sdoihf'aoishfgksd...i dunno! just stupid!!!

If I think music is good, I'm going to listen to it. I'm not going to just ignore it because it existed before my time. To me, there is no reason not to listen to music that I like. Just because most of those musicians are dead and gone doesn't mean their music isn't. Besides, new music today isn't really my cup of tea. Do you really think old musicians were playing their music for only that generation to hear? No, they wanted it to live on.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Classic Rock had a very good feel to it, but people who like Classic rock and hate today's rock are basically hipsters. They want to be part of something they think they missed. It worked better back then, because the young people still had brains and talent based music was still popular. There are still brains out there functioning like Richard Melbonn's and Syd Barrett's, but, they're not the brains that are making money. It's not in high demand. There are a lot of great bands out there who play stuff that sounds EXACTLY like the Stones. Just move to Southern California, hang out for a while, and you'll finally hear some of those bands. If you don't hang out in the underground, sadly, you won't hear these bands. But, we have the internet now and it's a very powerful tool, so all you really have to do now is go about finding sites like Iuma.com, and find the bands that the record companies will no longer sell. Don't blame the musicians on a whole, blame our stupid generation for listening to ghetto rap, and hardcore. If people were into rock on a majority, it'd still be selling.

In answering the original question, we like classic rock (oldies as a genre were a bit older than that) because the music was often very trippy, often had something deep to say, and was full of talent. That stuff still exists, though. I'm in a band called "The Riders on the Storm" that plays a lot of classic rock, and a prog. metal band, too. Rap and hardcore aren't the only two that exist today, only what is popular, and as GMDukes showed in the "rap" thread, there are some intelligent and spacey rap/hip-hop artists out there, but they're obviously not going to sell as well as the decadence based rap artists today, and thus I say, blame your generation. They're the one's fueling this lame music. You can still find good rock today, though. It's not like the brains just stopped working creatively after the 1970s ended, they just stopped being able to move product.

Like I said, the music still exists. We're not moving backward. Popular music was almost always shitty. The '70s has disco, it's just that for a very small period the public pulled their heads out of their asses, found what little bit of brain they had left, and started getting into the music brought by the British invasion. It's like the Police Academy movies. You have to realize that a good 80% of people (the majority) are complete morons who are pleased by total bullshit. If you want classic rock sounds, you can find them today, you just won't find them on a major label.

..this thread is crazy. yeah, because we weren't born in the same era it's wrong of us to find a sound appealing. if you listened to oldies to piss off your parents you're obviously listning to music for the wrong reasons. hey, you're not allowed to listen to Beethoven because you weren't alive in the 1800s!

dumbed down, people listen to music because THEY LIKE IT, and the oldies era happens to have good music!

I also completely disagree with anyone who said oldies sounds better, there's so many great bands that exist now as well! you just have to dig around to get them.
