I believe people masturbate because it makes them feel relieved. I also believe there may be some social stigma around it. Women and Men are so accustomed to seeing sexual ads in daily life and believing that we are supposed to have sex to ‘feel good’ means that we thrive off of it and want it subconsciously. Women and men are so different. Men masturbate because of this sense of self-satisfaction and manly hood. Men ‘need’ to masturbate, whereas women can turn sexuality off. Men are sexual and masculine beings and if they aren’t having sex, then they feel inadequate. If men are not having sex and have to masturbate it is because they do not have a women (or a male) to have sex with. Men then need to ‘relieve’ themselves from their sexual urges. Although, I am not sure if they actually have sexual urges that cannot be controlled, or if they are ‘supposed to have urges’ therefor they do. I wonder if masturbation has been something since the dawn of time, or if because we are supposed have perform these acts, then we do. I know as a woman there are many reasons I masturbate. But, I can also tell you that I can ‘turn it off’. If I don’t feel sexy then there is no point. There are definitely times when I masturbate because I am bored, and other times because I want to feel sexy when I do not. Masturbation may be a subconsciously forced form of relaxation, but even without the subconscious surround it, masturbation just feels good. If I am stressed out and remind myself to take the time for myself, that is definitely a go to. So, masturbation could be a subconscious form of our upraising pertaining to media, or it could be something humans have individually developed because it feels good.

1. Because I can.
2. Because it feels fantastic.

The primary reason for me is that it is the only alternative to now non existant sexual intercourse.
