Why a sanctuary?

I agree with you jackflash that there is more than one correct way to do something, look at the number of species on this planet. We speak sometimes subtle semantic differences. Finding a common language for these differences helps us establish a strong consensus and working relationship.

What I mean about pursuing virtue is not about physical performance but the quality of attention given to the task. Alertness, mindfulness. Seek, ask, knock.

Evangelists didn't like the idea the first time he proposed it. Probably because they would have no Jackleg atheists at which to aim their arrows of love.

Again, no mention of evangelical Christians, just persecution.

Maybe you don't realize that your jackleg atheist comments against Christianity are considered proselytizing by many.

I'm still having a hard time understanding why a guy who is obviously well spoken, self assured and can take criticism quite well, cannot understand why some people might want to have a place where they can enjoy the calm and peaceful discussion of their like values and beliefs.

I like controversy and so do you, but many people do not. Many people just like to bask in the sunshine of the things that make them feel good and share those feelings with others of like mind without the proverbial ants at the picnic.

Again, this thread is for discussing why there is a sanctuary in the first place, I'm not saying it should be taken down I just gave reasons as to why that there is one, mainly because the glue that holds christian belief together is so thin that even under light scrutiny it falls apart, hence the need to separate it from normal conversation and instead have only those who can reinforce each others like minded ideas chime in to ego stroke one another.

If someones faith is shaken just from reading a post on an Internet forum I could care less, maybe they should trade in their faith for something less frivolous.

This seems to escape you to a degree that I wonder if your intentionally missing the point.

How am I preventing this, why are you including this?

I could care less if people want to believe the Earth is 6000 years old, I think it's funny, or that just because a man was born of a virgin he should in turn be given the superpowers of walking on water or the ability to resurrect the dead, I'm not trying to convert anyone just making posts.

It's interesting. I find the santuary one of the most devisive places with a constant wrestling for the truth. Healthy for the most part, but not a sunny picnic by a long shot. If you want sunshine visit the stoners lounge or games forum.

 

I agree, people tend to forget that when speaking about christianity there are thousands of sects, each one claiming to correctly interpret the bible while claiming the others are incorrect.

This leads to allot of humorous discussion, such as when the KJV of the bible mentions so and so being strong as a Unicorn if it is to be taken literally or not.

 

It only falls apart in your mind. I think the fact that it has lasted for 2000 years dispels your claims.

The "Christians only" sign on Sanctuary is no different than the "Members Only" sign at a VFW club. Do you think you have the right to go into a VFW club and argue with us about veterans benefits if you are not a veteran?

At this point I'm pretty bored with your mis-characterizations, red herrings and deflections. You ceased to be a challenge long ago and I'm not enjoying watching you make a fool of yourself.

I would like to say one thing, though, maybe two. If you walked into a VFW club and tried to argue about Veterans benefits, the Sheriff (a member), would haul your bruised and battered body off to jail. Private clubs are a long tradition that is protected by law. Just like the "Private Property" sign at the mouth of my 300 ft. driveway. I'm not arguing against free speech, I'm arguing for free association and private property rights. Your rights end where another's begin.

That free speech that you seem to hide behind is only one part of a larger document called "The Constitution of The United States," which has many rights and protections spelled out that are more clearly defined in decisions made by the Supreme Court over the past 200 years. It would serve you well to familiarize yourself with all of these rights, and protections.

Finally, this board is owned by someone who has a right to do with it as he/she chooses. If you want to be the "Big Dick," put up your own board and you can call the shots.
