Gandhi. Man was a pussy. And I admired the guy for years. Out of the list, Reagan by MILES and MILES and MILES and MILES and MILES and MILES and * 5 years later * MILES and MILES and MILES.
rebels don't go out like p#ssies. and he supposedly rose from the dead 3 days later?? riiiiight.. blind faith is for mindless idiots. the story was lame, and rational people just don't buy into fairy tales, only superstitious people do. because apparently, a lot of jesus freaks are stupid enough to give their money to the church, they might as well give it up to the establishment (which happens to play the jesus card like a house winner).
i'm not really Christian but so what Christ didn't exist? all he talked about was love and caring. how does that make him over rated?
ever seen megachurches and televangelists? again, jesus wasn't the first to talk about love and caring, but he certainly is the most over-hyped.
I personally wouldn't compare those people who have hijacked a religion and use it for personal gains to Jesus, but you have the right to do so.
no, you're right...but I'm not comparing them to jesus at all. i'm just implying that people have blown his name out of proportion, that was the general idea of that post. I'm sure he was a normal humble man, not an ostentatious one. it's quite a shame that people have played on mass superstition for personal gain, in the name of "faith" in him. prophets and seers have been around for millenia, jesus wasn't the first and isn't the last. it just happens that people mass marketed the Jesus brand name through coercive evangelization; think of all the conquered countries who've had their customs displaced by christian ideology. smells like brainwashing.
To the people who feel the need for defending Jesus in this thread: saying he's overrated isn't necessarily an attack on that person at all. I thought overrated exactly means 'blowing his name (and importance) out of (historical) proportion'.
I agree. Example: Eddie Van Halen. while nobody can deny that he is a bad ass guitarist, the fact is that he's one of the most over rated musicians in history. that he was relentlessly over hyped during his career and afterward does not take away from his talent or musical accomplishment/ success. I still respect eddie as a musician, and i don't bash him personally but i don't think he deserved the hype. being over rated doesn't make you "bad". it just makes you seem like more than you are, or something you're not.
good call, wordman. jesus could have been the greatest figure in the universe, but if people call him an incarnate god, and worship him...well there's no higher degree to look upon someone, so he would have to be the most overrated. I can still glean wisdom from Jesus and think he's the man and still refer to him as the most overrated. I guess it's not so much about the inherent qualities of the person, it's how they are received and judged.
I'm tempted to say Jesus, but along with others in this thread, I'm not convinced he was ever a person. I believe he was a compliation of myths developed over several centuries. The christian mythology around him has been attributed to pther gods. That's not evidence that he did not exist, although I've seen no evidence from historical documents to the contrary. I believe I'd say Columbus then.
churchill for sure spoke a lot of truth and had a lot of great qualities, and I admit I don't know much about him, but I've heard that he was a prominent role in forming the arbitrary boundaries of Israel after wwII, which has led to an unstable region until today. Not that it wasn't unstable before...I can't say this with confidence, can anyone definitively confirm or reject that?
he didnt even discover anything. . . .he thought the indies were freaking america. . .he is a douche he doesnt deserve a whole song
He did do a lot of Anti-Nuke campaigning though, so his heart was in the right place a lot of the time.
chris columbus motherfucker thought he was in india, he didnt discover shit, but i liked the day off from school
