Haha, I meant to point out he isn't exactly loved amongst those of Spanish descent. Oh yeah, and he played bowls, which is pretty much a one way ticket to fiery damnation.

Amen sister! and while we're at it what about George Armstrong Custer? why is it that we call Wounded Knee and Sand Creek battles but Little Big Horn was a masacre? Could it be that history is written by the victors?

I went with Jesus. I even heard the medieval portraits aren't in his true image.

man, i think jesus was a cool guy. but he didnt write the bible so for all we know that stuff is bullshit and is a conspiracy made up by people like the roman catholics and stuff. religion in general is overrated but jesus was a good guy. even if he wasnt the son of God, you dont see anyone else dying to save all people from their sins. i think people overrate George Clooney, i mean, what does he do? all actors actually. people like them b/c of their characters when they are no real actors that are good people, you know? and reagan didnt do much, and JFK wasnt that good looking or Jackie, its just that they were always on TV. come to think of it, star trek is extremely overrated although i do enjoy it but its a show, not a lifestyle. and math is the most overrated thing in history and maybe time, i know ur talking about people but i tend to ramble, sorry.

I agree I think jesus is a good role model, but i think people go wrong when they worship him. All he said is he was the light and the life of the world and that you will go to heaven through him, but does that mean worshipping him or emulating him?; is heaven a distant afterlife or is it here and now and can be realized by those who forsake all and embrace love? Even his close disciples misunderstood him, pretty constantly actually. Does contemporary christianity really think they understand jesus better than those disciples? like I said, he's not overrated, just misunderstood and terribly misrepresented. Christ was good, christians are not

compare jesus' words to Paul's. it's like they are totally different doctrines

really? well he sure was a pretentious bastard then.

perhaps he was a seer of some sort, but apparently a lot of superstitious people were convinced that he's the son of god, and priests and politicians throughout time cashed in on the whole scam.

sure, Columbus was an overrated bastard as well, but he conquered the new world in the name of a more overrated fake idol, jesus so-called christ.

The language he used probably only seems pretentious because of the poetic embellishments people put on whatever it was he said. I could only paraphrase the bible, cuz that's what's available. Whatever the exact language was that he used, may or may not have been pretentious. But I'm sure his intention was not to be polite, but to speak truth, even if it made him sound pretentious. And it's only a pretense if there's nothing genuine behind it.

I wouldn't defend those who exploited jesus' name through the ages; the very earliest actions of the disciples were erroneous imo. When I refer to Jesus as a role model, I don't necessarily mean the Jesus who is described verbatim in the bible. Those guys wrote it at least ten years after Jesus died, I've never thought it was an accurate account. These were also the people who confessed minsunderstanding JEsus on a regular basis.

But there is a general personality you can interpret from the texts available, and that figure isn't really different from legendary seers and prophets of other cultures. Again, christian organizations and christendom in general throughout history have been a significant scourge to the planet and to humanity, but if it wasn't in the name of Jesus it would have been someone else. The actions of christians were never consistent with what Jesus admonished.

that's the thing, the story of jesus isn't even an original one, and mohammed is almost as overrated (jesus has more followers because certain christian sects are relentless when it comes to evangelization).

but like Carlin said, "pick your superstition."
