are you people retarded. THE BEATLES!!!! they have sold more albums than any other band.....ever. they did so much for music that it's not even funny for those of you who said the beatles ...give yourself a slap on the back ..the rest of you a slap on the face. there are plenty of good bands & alot of your opinions i agreed...they are good bands but the beatles are the best...you might not like them but they are & probably always will be the best. they are deffinitly not overrated. whoever said that's a retard.

Yes, the impact the Beatles had on music can never be underestimated, and yes they sold more albums then any other band(but Elvis is still in 1st) but musically and lyrically people have different tastes.

i know alot or people like to pick classic bands like floyd and zeppelin and the hendrix experience and whatnot, and they are some of the best bands to ever play. however, i think the greatest band ever is Against Me! im sure ill get alot of crap because they only play four chords total throughout all of their songs, but i fucking love them. best band ever is an opinion. i agree that this is just a favorite band thread. since i dont know anything whatsoever about the technical side of music making, thats all i have to go on. so what are some bands that are technically and mechanically talented?

the beatles are badass and definately one of the best and most influencial bands. but, albums sales dont equal greatness. look at groups like nsync and whatnot. they sell a shit ton of albums, but we all know they dont compare to bands like the 13th floor elevators and Can who probably didnt sell half of what nsync did. the greatest band ever may never be known. who knows how many great, unsigned, "garage" bands will never be know because they didnt release a major album.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't know that I possessed a quandary in intellectual abilities like my autistic uncle.

So who really gives a flying fuck over the greatest band anymore? Just because someone else disgrees with you over something as lame as this obviously does not mean that person is mentally retarded. And by the way, "A retard," like you said, is actually a verb, which means "to hold back/to delay." Shows how much you know. [IMG]

My favorite technical bands? Symphony X, Queensryche, Ritchie Kotzen, Vinnie Moore and the Shadow's fall, Alcatrazz, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Cacophony, Stratovarius...technical music can be really emotional and great music. There are a lot simple bands with whom I'm really obsessed. I can't even start my day without listening to atleast a couple Rolling Stones' songs.

yes. on both counts several times, and I say that Mark Vann had a more distinctive and original sound. Granted, the Stump had a lot to do with that.
And Alphonso Johnson can play circles around Victor on a good day. This does NOT mean Bela and Victor are not talented, only that there are others in that rare air.
I'd rather see Bela than say beck any day.
Bela's also a good soul and person.

Victor Wooten is a great bassist, but after seeing Billy Sheehan on stage with Racer X, I'd have to definately say Sheehan is better. Wooten plays some crazy classical stuff, though.

I say the Beatles are overrated as a band of musicians. They're placed where they should be placed in the influential category; they're probably the most influential band in rock history, thus they should be called the "most influential band", not the "best" band. Like I said, when I put on a record, I'm not looking to listen to influence, I'm looking to listen to good music. I'm a fan of The Beatles, but I'm not going to even attempt to say they were incredible musicians. They were just average Joe musicians, on level with most people of their time and I'd not even put them in the top 100 records of mine I'd favor. Kansas was full of better musicians, who made better music, so I'd rate them higher than The Beatles, if we were going to try to name a "best" same with Pink Floyd. Naming a best is completely impossible, but musically I have my opinions on who would come much closer than The Beatles.
