In all seriousness though, Phish is the greatest band ever.

The best Blues-rock band of all time was "Foghat" - the original line-up that is, with Rod Price on lead/slide guitar, Tony Stevens on bass, Roger Earl on drums, and of course, the late, great Lonsome Dave Peverett on vocals. I saw them 3 times in '73 and '74 in south Fl. - each time as an opening act for the likes of Frank Zappa, Mountain, and Johnny Winter. Except for Winter, they blew the other headliners off the stage. Til this day, I still cannot sit still when "Slowride", "I Just Wanna Make Love To You", or "Fool For The City" is playin'.

(If you can, pick up the Encore Collection's, "Foghat: Extended Versions" - it'll rock your socks off).

    Later....

Good God, you expect me to choose a single band?

Right now, its Jimi Hendrix Experience and Sly and the Family Stone

Tomorrow? Who knows what my favorite band/bands will be.

of the choices so far, pink floyd kicks ass, the doors, Zep, phish, Who, all kick ass

    Creed sucks

Led Zeppelin and the Doors are overrated. Neither are even close to being the greatest band of all time.

    Phish? Ha... no.

    Nirvava? Haha, yeah right.

Pink Floyd is a close one, especially when you include Barrett in the equation.

The Beatles are another close one. I mean, they are the Beatles.

Oh well, some of these answers crack me up. Haha, Nirvana... LMAO.

I love Zep & I can understand if they're thought of being overrated...
but aren't the Beatles overrated too?

It truly depends on how you define best...

By sound, I coulde easily choose Pink Floyd, Liquid Tension Experiment, Kitaro, or Sigur Ros.

By lyrics... Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Young, or even Dylan.

By performance, I would easily choose Manu Chao over all.

Hell, if it were up to me, I'd choose a Russian band as the best... but since none of you will know of it.

I would have to say a nice draw, for overall best, between The Velvet Underground and Pink Floyd.

    I say they're over-loved, not overrated.

That sounds pretty logical to me.

Why? Why did you do it? I'm asking you legitimately. Why did you start a thread like this? Please, never do it again!

It's just a chance for people to name off their favorite bands, really. Most people aren't really thinking seriously anyway. They're simply naming off their favorite acts.

Oh well. It's just for fun, you know.
