    And what happens when you touch a piece of metal, how hot or cold does the metal feel initially, and why does it get warmer?

    I feel like I'm teacher 3rd year physics here LOL

    because metal is a conductor of both heat and cold. but facts are facts, when ice metls it means temperatures are rising. not cooling.

    how could ice melt from within and yet not have a heat source inside of it?

    Whahayyyyy now we're getting to the bottom of it....

    It can't, It takes heat from without, from the surrounding air.
