What part did you live in, cause I am from So Cal and it's nice there. I lived in Chula Vista and I never had any problems..... And, I am in Corpus Christi TX now....not liking the heat or humidity and wish there was some place close to do hiking....other than that, it's fine here.
there's a lot of wooded areas where you are, autumnrain, if you didn't know. just go a bit eastward and you'll find some great hiking spots.
Really??? Oh I hope I can find them when I'm ready to hike. I soo want to go hiking and camping. I'm not in shape to hike right now, but once I get to that point, I really want to do it often. It'd be nice to only travel an hour or two or so to do that instead of getting on a plane or traveling a long time by car. Thanks. Do you know what areas specifically such as park names/surrounding city? Just wondering, if not it's cool. At least I know what direction to go in, lol. Thanks for the info.
Ahhhh, there's not much by Corpus in the way of trees....BUT there's a beautiful beach and 60 miles of it is relatively undisturbed (especially during the winter months). The closest forest area to Corpus would be Davy Crockett NF, which is 3-4 hours away. There might be some state parks with trails between Corpus & San Antonio; but Blanco SP (north of SA) has more trees & less brush than anything south of SA; first pine trees start to appear in Bastrop County. Can tell you all kinds of cool places to camp & hike in Bastrop & Travis Counties.
