It's easy, don't you see? You've been conditioned your entire life to believe that those who are condemned to Hell are there because they deserve to be. You are at peace BECAUSE you don't have to mingle with these evil creatures for eternity. Those fuckers DESERVE an eternity of misery! Let 'em burn!!! The belief that there is no afterlife, that the here and now are all we have, brings me great comfort. I sleep better at night knowing I don't have to please some sky god.
That's great, but people who happen to believe in hell deserve eternal damnation because they believed something silly?
the metaphors, heaven and hell are, in my opinion, just that... metaphors for a reality that can be experienced from one moment to the next, here and now, in the physical manifestation of our present lives... just depends on your perspective...
Here's an old musician joke: Q:What is the difference between a lead singer and God? A: God doesn't think he's a lead singer. I think that Athiests are as obnoxious as the Born Again Christians that they complain about and mock. To me they are exactly the same. I've read interviews with Bill Mahar talking about "That stupid superstition known as religion" saying "I won't stop talking about this until everybody agrees with me." I've also read interviews with Rush Limbaugh where he talks about how "Every American should believe in God" saying "I'm not going to stop until everybody agrees with me." To me they are both arrogant self righteous morons. I think that most of the "Athiests" I've talked to are arrogant and have a massive "Superiority Complex" who talk down to everybody who doesn't share their viewpoint that there is no God. I've also talked to alot of "Christians" who were just as bad. I've had this discussion a couple of times. It goes something like this "If you believe in evolution than you don't believe in god." "Really why is that?" "Because they don't talk about it in the Bible." "Do you believe in North America?" "Yes, why?" "Because they don't talk about it in the Bible." Most of the conflict on Earth is based on this egoistic need to be right and to holding on to your beliefs for dear life. We've had institutions like the Catholic Church torturing and oppressing people for centuries because those people didn't believe the book they were reading. Or it was the Communists torturing and oppressing people that believe in God because they didn't believe the book that they were reading while chanting a soundbite fraction of a quote about religion. It seems to me that both sides use their book to avoid any type of real substantial self examination and give them justification for any type of horrific behaviour that they wish to perform. "Go ahead and hate your neighbor Go ahead and cheat a friend If you do do it in the name of Heaven You can Justify it in the end There will be no trumpets calling On that silver judgement day On the lonely morning after One tin soldier rides away" Peace Out, Rev J
Athiests are on the defensive, everyone with an imaginary friend is out to get them, as are pretty much all agnostics. So.... haters gunna hate.... That said, I'm not athiest, or not strictly, but in effect, I think the exact same thing, I simply revised my opinion, realizing that believing anything without proof is silly.... I don't believe there's no god, or whatever... but I'm rather confident that there is none.
Well, I'm less confident then you there's no other...something. However, I like your stance. Really, strong atheists who call their stance rational are delusional. The only real 'rational' stance is to say 'Hell, I don't know'. Because we can't ever really know for sure. So, yeah, I really respect your position. Go agnosticism! Not that I'm hating on folk who do have faith one way or another. Just that I can't understand all the fighting about it. This one has faith there is a god, this one has faith there isn't, both are fighting for supremacy, for dominance of the culture. I mean, at first atheism was just fighting for the right to exist, to not get hanged as heretics. But it's really gone past that.
"Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation," Karl Marx Ironic isn't it. Peace Out, Rev J
saw the following quote today and it made me think of this thread... God is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh.Voltaire French author, humanist, rationalist, & satirist (1694 - 1778)
To me God is love. I was thinking about this quote the other day and how it relates to God. My love has made me selfish. I cannot exist without you — I am forgetful of every thing but seeing you again — my Life seems to stop there — I see no further. You have absorb'd me. I have a sensation at the present moment as though I was dissolving — I should be exquisitely miserable without the hope of soon seeing you. [...] I have been astonished that Men could die Martyrs for religion — I have shudder'd at it — I shudder no more — I could be martyr'd for my Religion — Love is my religion — I could die for that — I could die for you. (Letter, 13 October 1819). John Keats~
'good' or 'bad' is our perception of a thing. Sometimes 'bad' things need to happen to create room and change for 'good' things to happen. IMHO
Well yes, quite..... if communism where done right, it would eleminate organized religion, not through force, but because with less stress in their lives to need an imaginary friend to talk to, most rational people would accept that if there's a higher power, you couldn't possibly pick it from the religions on earth... there's a huge number, and each one is, obviously, convinced they're right... I don't mean to take a stab at religion there, maybe you follow a particular belief for a personal reason, that's fine.... but I just personally am not convinced that if one human belief system is correct, we could know which one it is.... Look for the single one that claims to be wrong, perhaps?
No man can see God and yet live. The Bible does not teach that people, and the devil, suffer in endless torment, in hell. http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/s...26#post6342126 Why? Everyone is here on earth, do you find it compassionate to allow murderers, rapists and child molesters to walk freely among us? Do you really feel allowing them to do so makes the earth a better place? It would seem you like to imagine quite a bit yourself.
I used that particular quote because of the punchline which is "Religion is the opiate of the people." There is an Irony there. People who use that particular saying use it out of context. It is a mindless soundbite. It is kind of like "Just do it" for the communist movement. You've been taken. (Sheep like) "Baaah religion is the opiate of the masses." To me it's like (Sheep like)"Baaah Jesus is my lord and saviour." Fuck Dude think for yourself. Peace Out, Rev J
