I tried to drive a stick and got it like 2 inches forward and it died. So I tried again. Same thing. So I gave up.... lol I'll stick to automatics
I think part of the reason I didn't do well is the clutch was messed up or something I was told I had to push it all the way down. =\
for most, its bring it back up thats the problem. the tend to want to just let go. but you gotta ease it out.
The hardest part of driving a stick is first gear. After that shifting is easy. It's just getting the right ratio of letting off the clutch to pressing the gas peddle.
Just dump the clutch and shift when the tires stop spinning. In a good run I shift 3 times in a hair over 10 seconds, seems like alot of time but its not.
My first car was a 1989 Dodge Datona. It was an automatic, but the transmission sucked. I had to shift manually all the time. It was such a piece of crap.
i learned to drive a stick too, but with all the hills and snow and ice and stuff around here i decided to go with an automatic when I got my own car. makes life a bit easier, but i still think driving stick is more fun. and it deifnitely keeps you more in touch with the driving, which i miss.
The same reason you enjoy driving stick (to keep in touch with driving) is the same reason many airline pilots enjoy flying old aircraft (to keep in touch with the mechanics of flying) Hotwater
I can't and have tried lot's times too. For what ever reason I just can't do it. I also learned on a automatic and have driven for years.
