This might sound weird coming from a little white girl but I wouldn't mind living in the Bronx. Rent is cheaper, you have to deal with less tourists, it's more gritty and has more character than other burroughs that have been gentrified, and it contains a very diverse population. I get on kicks sometimes where I get obsessed with a certain local and learn everything I can about it. I was on a Bronx kick recently and something about it appealed to me.
granted, i just got this info from wikipedia, but according to them as of the 2010 census the bronx was 53.5% latino. it also said that the US census considers the bronx to be "the most diverse area in the country."
I've noticed this in England. Birmingham was described as "highly diverse" because whites were in a minority over Indians and Pakistanis/Bangaldeshis (ie "Indian subcontinent"). Thats hardly diverse, infact less "diverse" than the mix of white people..
No. I was watching something the other day and it showed a teacher in the Bronx and everyone in her class was from a different part of the world. It wasn't predominantly any one nationality. I wish I had went to a school like that. I would like to send my son to a school like that. I've read some parts of the Bronx are predominantly black, most is predominantly Latino, but if you look up their census information there are a ton of other nationalities mixed in.
switzerland or nepal. seriously, if i could afford to live anywhere in new york city i wanted to, the last place in hell i would want to live, would be new york, or any other city.
i had a bunch of relatives who lived in new york city back in the 50s and before i was born, all the way back to the 1920s. i saw the place in 1959 when i was 11. i can't for the life of me imagine why anyone would want to live in ANY part of it.
Museums, culture, freedom from needing to own a car, the fact that any touring band is going to have a stop in new York, the architecture, the diversity and the ability to eat absolutely any cuisine because of that , the fact that there's always something to do. The fact that out of all the people you see on the streets you aren't expected to talk to anyone, whereas the town I live in has way less people and everyone thinks you're rude if you don't make eye contact and smile. I can think of a few reasons
Sure NYC has tons of stuff to do, and it would be great to visit everything they have to offer. But I'm from a small town and I know the second I would walk onto the streets of NYC, I'd freak out. I dont like being around sooooo many people... and bad traffic.. and taxi cabs. I'd rather just not go there... even for a short visit.
