Yesterday I flew barefoot from Greensboro, NC back to Denver. After my meetings in Greensboro, I ducked into the hotel where I'd stayed, and changed clothes in their restroom. I emerged in my standard attire (t-shirt, shorts, bare feet). I drove to the Triad Airport where I discovered my United flight was cancelled. Fortunately, they were able to rebook me on USAir through Charlotte. I made the flight to Charlotte barefoot, walked from Terminal E to Terminal B in Charlotte, and waited for my flight - barefoot the whole time. When I boarded my flight to Denver, USAir had two people at the gate - one scanning boarding passes and one just sort-of screening people - hanging out, looking people up and down. As I approached, the one person scanned my boarding pass. "The Enforcer" then told me I would not be allowed past the gate without shoes. I showed her my flip-flops and continued. As I walked a couple of steps, I noticed she was watching me to ensure I put on my flip-flops. I put them on, but then asked her if it was her personal rule that I wear shoes or if it was USAir's. She replied that it was a safety concern. I replied that it's not an FAA policy, but it may be USAir's policy. She just grunted. I wore my flip-flops to my seat, kicked them off, and remained barefoot thereafter.

Oh well, there are worse things that could happen, but if bare feet really are a safety issue, it's rarely enforced. I board barefoot quite frequently and this is the first time anyone's said something.

Yesterday I tried out an aldi. They were barefoot friendly. The cashier saw that I was barefoot, but didn't comment.

Went out on our monthly hike today (Sat) a ten miler.
As usual, i was the only barefooter.
All went well for the first seven miles, but the last three were a really nasty mix of crushed rock and gravel. Normally i would have walked beside it, but it was lined with brambles and thistles, and finding another route was also out, as i was with a group.
I just had to grin and bear it, and with all those shoddies watching, pretend it didn't hurt!
At the end of the walk, one said he expected my feet to be pouring with blood. I should have said "yeah, that was tough" but i actually said "it will take a lot more than that to hurt my feet!"
I was surprised to find them completely unmarked. Well done, feet!

Went to Publix today. I entered the store with completely clean feet after a walk on the beach, but after walking along the aisles they went black. Finally one of the store managers told me to wear shoes the next time - for safety and liability reasons. It was funny to see the amount of dirt I picked up on my soles and the cool floor felt very comfy anyway.

Hardware store (floors probably not cleaned in decades)
Town Hall where I got some sideways stares
In another thread I followed someone's lead and threw away my shoes so have had to do everything barefoot, shopping for grocerys, malls, doctors, on a ladder painting the house, etc. It has now been 45 days. If October isn't cold will go for 60+

So far, using public transport barefoot (as usual), and right now barefoot at the desk in the office (yep, it's one of those Saturdays again...). Lovely new thing about the office is that they have installed new WiFi repeaters, so that I can use my li'l portable 10" netbook in the office (without nasty proxies or logging which sites I visit - the IT wiz who gave me the WiFi password guaranteed that... on the regular office 'puters, HF is blocked by a proxy).

More being barefoot today will include the way back home by public transport, picking up a li'l snack on the way, and perhaps (if the other members have time today) taking my barefoot steps to the place our roleplaying gamemaster resides... another round of tossing dice is imminent. :)

Wiggling toes busy at the office,

I went to a museum barefoot today. First time for that. I was with a friend, and we went to a couple dollar stores and a wal mart (she wore shoes... she is totally not a barefooter, but she tolerates me going barefoot). I finally put on shoes when I went to eat though.

Elf Fantasy Fair in Arcen. Very nice park, lots of different surfaces. The regrettable part was that part of the surfaces were too harsh for those who weren't used to it; it was a very nice day and also quite a lot of visitors were wearing a costume that bare feet fit well, and saw some walking without shoes on the parts that had grass and packed earth trails... but all except for me (of those I saw; the place was much too big for me to oversee everything!) they all put their shoes back on when they came to the gravel, rockier trails, or those plates of concrete with gravel embedded. Ah well, still nice to see about a dozen or so taking off their shoes for the gentler trails; on a 'regular' day I doubt anyone does when visiting there. Most of the Dutch have their shoes glued on and it's rare I even see people walk barefoot on the grass in a park.

And noticeable comment: on the way back at the train station, wearing my bright green wig, carrying a 4-foot metal pole with a crow on top, the comment from the ticket taker: "You aren't wearing shoes!" Guess he does see people with bright green hair more frequently on the train than people who are barefoot... ::sigh::

Spent most of the day barefoot at my w/e job today, also did some overtime at my main job last night. My w/e job manager & colleagues used to seeing me bf, but main job not as it's more a suit & booted job, although was bf all last night & atleast two of the security guards noticed, but they didn't say anything. Also last w/e had a king size matress to get rid off, so thought I'd pull it apart so could put metal work e.g. springs etc in metal skip for recycling rather than whole matress going in landfill - took just two hours to strp it down - b/f great as vice to hold springs etc whilst using bolt croppers to cut metal - did end up with scratches & puncture wounds all over legs & feet though from the sharp metal ends, but I didn't care :)

I was blessed with being able to stroll barefoot around the city for more then an hour last night. It hasn't rained here in the last ten days, so my soles were nice and black.

Today was another wonderful barefoot afternoon! I went to a walmart, kmart, and 2 dollar generals. At the second dollar general, the lady was SO nice! I was going to buy some cough syrup and since I don't have any flip flops, and they are about to go out of season, making them DIRT cheap at the dollar general, I asked her where they are. She had already noticed that I was barefoot, so on the way to the flip flops, I said 'that's why i love dollar general because you always let me shop barefoot!' she smiled and said that it's fine to shop barefoot at her store. Second positive result in 2 trips! Has anyone else tried dollar general? I nominate them for a barefoot friendly award!
