Is that because your circle of friends really enjoy the music or is it because of the stigma and psychedelic type persona associated with the band.
Not trying to be an ass, but I think a lot of "deadheads" are such because they think or feel that if they label themselves as "hippy" to any type of degree that they should also be Grateful Dead fans.
I would wager that that is the case for more than a few.

I personally appreciate the Grateful Dead, but I wouldn't call myself a fan at all.
