I personally rather forget about System of a Down and although I can agree that they're a good example how rock keeps evolving they sound more like a metal band to me. Anyway, rock or not it's a typical 'alternative' band that I don't like to associate directly with rock 'n roll myself. Of course it shows that I'm not a fan here but I think I'm still objective
if you want to get technical, I believe its mentioned in "American Pie" by Don Mclean. [ when buddy holly and others died in the plane crash]
Naaaaaaaaaw......Jimi's gonna release a "new" album called Valleys of Neptune in March....watch out for it man.....for more details, go the Jimi Hendrix homepage! By blackglove at 2010-01-19
how are you classing Rock being dead? you can still go and buy any album released x years ago, it's "dead" because it isn't on the mainstream radio?
Ok Computer by Radiohead is the death of rock n roll to me. When i listen to this album I actually sometimes get the impression of rock n roll falling to pieces on record. OK Computer seems like the logical conclusion to what Sgt. Peppers was the start of. i know rock n roll kinda disappeared a couple times in that period when punk/disco got popular and other fleeting genres, but this is just how i view it in my head. Coincidentally both albums were released in the same month (June) 30 years apart. 'Rock music' after this either pushed it self into electronic psychedelia retreated back to recycled bluesy rock/garage rock or softened up to mainstream pop rock.
No it doesn't mean rock's gone but i do believe it's dead in the sense it had nowhere else to go after 'Ok Computer'. Like I said it either pushed further into electronic psychedelic rock, retreated to blues/garage rock or went for a more poppy watered down sound. Examples: psychedelia- Muse, MGMT Blues/garage rock- White Stripes, The Strokes pop rock- Coldplay I'm not saying all these bands necessarily sound like Radiohead (although I do think Muse and Coldplay do a bit), i'm saying that all of them are influenced by past rock and at most incorporate the use of electronic experimentation that 'OK Computer' set the precedent for. I like some of the new rock, I just don't find any of it revolutionary or groundbreaking.
You have mentioned 2 bands that have let's say, "killed " true rock indeed.....Radiohead and Coldplay
I always laugh when someone asks a dumb question like this ha Like what? It hasn't gone anywhere and it sure as fuck didn't die. Its gonna be here a lot longer than anyones childrens childrens children before thers some wild unknown change haha
I for one have encountered again some new groovy rock. Anybody here know of King Hobo? Radio Moscow (try Brain cycles of 2009!). Also enjoying Dan Auerbach's solo album hehe (he's in the Black Keys, good band as well, I particulary like their album The big come up)
