I've always been a bit boheimian, in fact when my mum phoned up a fried of hers she hasn't seen in around 8 years, so when i was seven, the first thing he asked about me was "is she still a bit bohiemian?" and my mum didn't know how to tell him that i had turned even more hippie. I'd been on and off vegetarian since i was around 8 and now i have been a vegetarian for about 2 years and i always used to ask my mum to put elivis on in the car, then it was the Beatles, then my friend coppied her led zep CD for me so I could listen to music in my own room and now she's doing a beatles CD for me. I voted someone made me realise becuase about 8 months ago, i met this Canadian dude who is about a year older than me and he totally made me become hippie, but i think if I hadn't met him, i would have turned hippie sooner or later anyway, he just sort of wakened me to it lol :)

Well... I've always been interested in the sixties, and without noticing it myself, I looked like a hippie (as in, bohemian-ish, with long loose hair...) So my friends reminded me of it, and because I like smoking pot too, and I love peace, I started wondering. I was like "Well... maybe I am... uurr... I probably am!"
So the whole "progress" went kind of natural with me, before I actually noticed it!

It was a sunny day in june 1995... i was laying in the dirt playing war games with my friend when suddenly a plane crashed in front of my eyes... a strange looking fairy walked out of it and said she will grant me three wishes if i do a short quest for her. I said what the hack and accepted,

I had to deliver an ancient artefact to profesor bart at the university downtown and when i came there i saw his dead body hanging from the celing... i took out my guns and looked for clues.. i found some duck tape i used to make my eyes open all the times.... that helped me stay alert 24/7

Anyway at one crucial moment the fairy returned and told me it was taken care of and that i have the right for three wishes anyway

i wanted to be cool, smart and goodlooking

but the bitch turned me into a hippie instead... evil whore.... it was a cruel joke... but at least i get to listen grateful dead and smoke pot

I'm not sure about what a hippie is and i haven't read all of the posts. that said i've always been called a hippie and i've had no choice this is who i am my parents where the same ya know i grew up with parents who would have fires and music in the country and pack up the car and decide to move and all the things that make many people who label say we were hippies. so i guess since birth if i have to be called something. ahhh, labels so fun to identify

I don't really consider myself a hippie, even though i'm constantly told by mom that i should have been born decades ago so i could be my age in the mid to late 60s because she thinks i would have fit in really good, but i've always been an open-minded pretty-cool-with-anything type of person and i've always loved music by Janis Joplin (i LOVE janis) and Jimi Hendrix and Joni Mitchell and the mama's and the papa's and just all of them. i like them more than I like today's music (which is another reason my mom said i should have been in the 60s lol).

i don't do drugs and i hadn't been very political until recently, with this stupid war going on and a stupider (is that a word?) president in office. I've actually been in a couple of small but effective anti-war rallies in L.A., which made me feel kinda hippie-ish hehe (it's stupid, i know) it was a good feeling. but i started to feel like i was more in tune with the hippie community when i saw the woodstock movie and i was actually jealous that i wasn't there because it seemed sooooooooo cool and it like sooooooo much fun. and all that great music. that's when i knew, so i found out more about the people and the lifestyle from some of my mom's friends and my family and all that and i was like "oh yeah, this is my kinda thing here" so i joined up here with you good people and i just continue to be me, which apprently is similar to being a hippie.

I grew up with a family full of close minded people. I never completly fit in, because i was always happy. about two and a half years ago i met my ex and he challenged my opinions. It made me very uncomftorble but i overcame it after constant baggering. It was a process, then i realized that you cant just go with what everyone says. I started doing things i liked instead of things that looked cool. I started loving wearing the color brown and gypsy skirts. Also the doors and pink floyd became my favorite music. Recently my friends started calling me a hippy, because i wear band tshirts and i started writing poetry from my heart and expierences. My best friend josh who introduced me to this forum, made me really realize i was a hippy because we love to think outside the box and do not care what anyone else thinks. My older friend told me your such a hippy and you dont even know it. I just am who i am and if the things i do are classified as hippyish so be it. all i knw is i finally am realizing who i am

What's a hippie? Guess I will go with that label over being called weird or strange. If our income was higher we could be "eccentric".

Frugal, simple life, old paid off cars, make do, do without necessities like Starbucks, cell phones, cable, satellite, or credit cards. Use cash only. Make our own meals from scratch.

    Freaks of nature, apparently.

Do you really want someone to put a "tag" on you? Being different doesn't make you a hippie. Smoking pot doesn't make you a hippie. I grew up around hippies. They believed in Peace, Love, and Harmony. The drugs and sex and clothes were just secondary concerns. Also, I knew a lot of hippies that had responsible jobs and short hair. Hippies didn't put that tag on themselves initially. I never heard anyone say "guess what, I'm a hippie". Be yourselves! If people put a label on you, that's their label. Love yourselves for who you are, not for what others call you. You young people have so much promise, and can make this world so much better. You will have the tools to solve global warming, and pollution. You may get to see the world finally be a place of Peace. Don't let other peoples' temporal concerns distract you. Wanna know what to be when you grow up? BE YOU! (and love this world enough to make it a wonderful place) BTW..being a hippie ain't a bad thing.
    Peace! w_o

I thought of myself as a hippy at one point in my life. Around 17-18. Then I moved to Oregon and being around so many holier-than-thou "hippies" really turned me off to the whole thing. I still occasionally have long hair, and smoke pot. But, I shower regularly, don't push my ideals on others, eat meat, think white people look funny with dreads, and can't stand the smell of patchouli. I know all those things aren't what makes a hippy, but in a lot of places it is what people do to make themselves appear to be all loving, mellow, earth-friendly humans, and most of the time it is just shallow and transparent.
