there's bad jobs everywhere. i'm not moralistic about prostitution. there's a health/cleanliness issue, but if that's taken care of, whatever. people will try to bring up marriages and how it's not actually a victimless crime, but hell, if a guy's going to go get a hooker, the odds are good the marriage isn't sound in the first place.
as a woman who left the job market to raise a couple babies for a few years, with a freaking amazing resume and recommendation letters that would make people cream themselves to have, i couldn't get a receptionist job. child care, a couple years out of the workforce, knowing that mom is usually the one who goes home when the kids are vomitting...not really conducive to starting up a decent job.
Legalize it, if someone wants to sell sex who would a cop be to tell them they cant? Maybe put restrictions on non-brothel type street walkers. Just like Vegas!
Sources? Was the relationship between the "significant rise" (how much?) in sexual assault in Amsterdam and the legal status of prostitution even established? Have you gone through the trouble of finding a comparative analysis between Amsterdam and places where private sex-for-money transactions between two consenting adults is considered illegal? Or would you just rather throw an isolated factoid around? *now watch this post get ignored*
fuck reading this thread. why the hell is every thread in RT tonight ten or more pages? anyway, my view on prostitution is that it is unfair, because prostitutes are generally very unattractive and i can't even afford the uggos.
yeah, but you have to remember to include the hidden cost of getting my skin reattached once i scrape it off her broken tooth...
you need to get your health insurance updated, so it will now include a provision for people who go to prostitutes...it practically eliminates that hidden cost
Man! You're inspired tonight! You and KC just made me giggle scandalously a few times tonight, already. Or maybe it's just that I haven't gotten laid in a while...hmmm. *thinks*
I was actually friends with a gay male prostitute once and I met some of his female prostitute friends and their whole justification for the job was basically "We like to earn good money and we like to fuck". This is perfectly OK with me.
ha ha, you too, but I am not that interesting. I just borrow from life...that actually happened. That is how some prostitutes think and they don't seem to be mentally conflicted in any way.
I always thought it should be legal...until I moved to a state where it is legal. When I was a counselor at the methadone clinic all the women from the bunny ranch would come in AND test positive for opiates while on methadone. Most of them revealed to me that they were sexually abused. More of the bunny ranch patients, than the non-bunny ranch patients. So the abuse is correlated to the prostitution, not the methadone to the prostitution IMO.
