If I was to make a list which wasn't dark and different, then I woudn't be choosing favourites. I mean it's silly to say these groups aren't diverse, some share similarities, but most stem from different genre's of music. There are happier sounding bands in the world, sure. I do like a lot of happier sounding music. But it's not my favourite. You're going by mood and not genre. I mean, The Smiths are my favourite group. Most people are stupid enough to say they are depressing and it just proves how little people know about some bands and warrants opinions useless. If you knew enough about IAMX, Ours or Dredg to condone what you say, then whether you like them or not- I would like a long conversation with you
Aaah, Take That They're a 90's English boyband with a lot of girly plasticy hits who broke up and reformed a few years ago. They're pretty big and oddly have become a pretty 'cool' band to appreciate. But I imagine if you listen to their stuff, you'll cringe. I LOVE them! Coming from the person who wrote it, I'd have a laugh at a list with U2 on it too. I despise Bono and pretty much everything recent released by U2. But I love the 80's stuff, so much so I can still consider them one of my fave bands.
oh ok well yes boybands are laughable. I liked that you put basement jaxx on there. They aren't anywhere near my favorite groups, but 'rooty' would probably crack a top 20 electronic albums of all time for me. All those bands you listed I could easily make a best of compilation cd for.
I don't know IAMX, no. I was thinking of looking them up when I saw their name, but the Opeth scared me off =P I can't fucking stand Opeth. As far as the genre thing, you have to admit that in each of those genres, there are bands that don't have as dark of a sound (aside from maybe Opeth), so the similarity is still significant. I just watched My Cousin Vinny, this could get interesting =P I'll message you when I get a good chance to check out IAMX (busy day, girlfriend's over, Pens play, Breaking Bad is on, school tomorrow), cause if I don't like it we can surely find a good argument out of it, and if I do, I will have to majorly thank you, cause I've been searhhing for months for an active band that's still good (other than the handful I've been listening to for years) =D Bono's the devil, Bret Easton Ellis told me so.
Ooo oooo oooo I want to spectate! There's no need to take this to pm boys, do it out in the open so we can all see, and possibly add some input !
Ahah, I just meant about checking out that band cause I won't be getting around to it today, I'm totally down for arguing that his list is pretty monochrome.
Electronic music isn't really something I'm into. I love Jaxx, though actually now I think about it I prefer Daft Punk. Both pretty mainstream, which makes sense if I'm not into electro.
