Led Zep 111 for the mainly acoustic side (I'm talking vinyl of course) IV is of course the most complete.... i mean Rock n Roll Black Dog Evermore California Levee etc etc
A Foggy Day In Vietnam is so not robert plant, i can see how one might think its zeppelin because of the piano and jonsey plays a great piano, but listen to the high pitches in the voice, its not robert
It's too hard for me to choose a best album but a best song wouldn't be any trrouble. My favorite Zeppelin song is No Quarter.
i love achilles last stand, it makes me wanna put on some armor and go fight in the trojan war. its very good live. but their best live song has got to be Dazed and Confused. with the 15 minute bow part. he looks so evil in the desert dvd. robert plant looksd like he is about to cry. very good on How the West Was Won also
Houses of the holy. and you also forgot Coda, in addition to In Through The Out Door....even though Coda isnt really an album
i know what you mean when you say that Page looks evil. and what he plays sounds so evil. and there's this one part that i looove on the bow solo...page is walking to the side of the stage to turn on his wah and he's just quietly hitting e chords with the bow, and plant is saying really quietly and low, "be on my side, i'll be yours" or something like that. i don't think that's exactly it but i'm too tired to go check right now. but it's soo subtle but it's like so eerie and evil sounding and plant has his head down so the light is casting a shadow over his face and he looks evil himself. and i love how plant sings along with the violin on the low parts that page plays...it sounds like i'm in a demon's church or something. ALSO, the bow solo on the menu of disc two is really eerie. how it's all cold outside and black and white and then it shows that kid just staring at the camera. very Zeppelin-ish. and my fave would probably have to be "I" just because 'twas the first zep album i got. but you gotta love them ALL.
Mine has changed today... right now it is III cause I'm in such a springy mood! I can just imagine Jimmy sitting in a field in Wales writing songs with his Martin accoustic...
It's so hard to decide.... I love the late albums a lot, but one of my favs would have to be Houses of the Holy...and III, gotta love 'em....
The survey is missing three albums: Soundtrack from "The Song Remains The Same"; "In through the Out Door" and "Coda". IAE, It would have to be a tie between II and IV, with "In Through the Out Door" and perhaps "Physical Graffiti" ranking up there with them. Moreover, I consider side one of "IV" and side two of "Houses of the Holy" to be close to what I'd call 'perfect' album sides.
I have a better taste for songs than I do for albums. But Physical Graffiti, III, Presence and IV are all great contenders. Between The Rover and When The Levee Breaks and Since I've Been Loving You and Achilles Last Stand there are just four solid albums. So Page's performance dropped off a little in Presence because of the heroin, it sure as hell doesn't show through the guitar tracks in Achilles Last Stand! My favorite one-two punch in rock music has got to be Since I've Been Loving You/Out On The Tiles, they contrast each other so well. The Rover? My god I could die in the middle of that solo, it may not be the longest Page has ever done, or the most famous, but it's definitely my favorite. Long Live Led Zeppelin.
Ah... I remember when I first started getting into Zeppelin and it was my first time listening to each album. Each song was a total surprise. There has never been a feeling to compare to the first time I sat down a listened to a "new" Led Zeppelin album.
Meh, I can't choose. I'm much too into the band for that. Every album up to/including Physical Graffiti is nearly flawless in my opinion, and I like Presence and In Through The Out Door, but they had weak moments.
