People on here sort of sound like 12 year old. ZOMG GLOBALIZATION IS LYK SOOOO EVIL.

You can't make a judgment issue as to why it's good or bad. And in actuality, people across the board are doing better. However, as we (and yes, if you are using the computer, you are part of the we) are doing much better in the globalization and the wealth gap is rising which makes it seem much worse than it actually is. Globalization obviously had some horrible effects, but let's face it, if you are spouting off about how bad globalization is from the comfort of your home, probably using a machine manufactured in East Asia and using the biggest catalyst of globalization that has ever existed, you're a flaming hypocrite.

My majors might as well be called "globalization studies" and I have read probably every major work or theory of globalization (if you really want to get pissed off- read Bhgwati's Defense of Globalization... if it pissed me off then it will give most of you a stroke). I seriously would encourage everyone here to get out and read mainstream academic works both for and against globalization, not just radical websites on either end of the spectrum which won't give you a full view. If you read The World is Flat, read about the Spiky World theory as well (or vice versa). Always temper your biases with information from the other side. It certainly made me go from an angsty anti-globalization high schooler to a pro sustainable development adult.

Globalization itself is a force of good. It is the policy makers and economic key players who try to squeeze every drop of comparative advantage out of the poor. That's the problem, not globalization itself.

I've been researching these topics semi-professionally for years now. I'm quite confident that I know what i'm talking about, i'm equally confident that i've weighed both sides of the equation, from Zbigniew Brzezinski to Hugo Chavez. You are a 19 year old student, and you share the same sort of ideologue I did at your age......wait, theirs alot more information you will uncover as you dig deeper beyond those "mainstream academic works" you so fondly refer to. You should dig deeper into the actual bowels of what is being suggested, go beyond the academic propaganda you are spoon fed and read the plans, documents and agendas for yourself. I'm quite confident that the majority (I didn't say ALL so don't pidgeon hole me please) of colleges and Uni's in the western world focus more on other peoples academic papers and opinions, as opposed to researching and critically analyzing the facts for yourself......your basically given a choice of flavored ideologues to choose between, nothing more. Before you settle your mind that globalization is in the slightest way a benefit to your common man, you should THOROUGHLY research (and by thoroughly I mean reading their group specific documents, not secondhand policy accounts) the Council on Foreign Relations, DARPA, the Bilderberg group, Information Awareness Office, all the various free trade agreements, Project for a New American Century, the Security and Prosperity Project, everything you can get on the UN. You need to throughly read and research the United Nations Agenda 21, it's a 900 some odd page document but the information contained within is imperative, if you can study that document and STILL tout ANY benefit to globalization, you deserve what lies in wait. Within that document you will find the true ramifications of globalization, which is basically death to everyone but the very rich. As far as your mention of Jagdish Bhagwati's work, I will concede he does an outstanding job at making a pro-globalization case to the layman. However their are ALOT of relevant issues not addressed by Bhagwati, he basically touts globalization as the economic ace of spades.............but of course he is biased, he's an economics professor at Columbia of all places, how much more elitist can you get? His work is nothing more than propaganda created to compel students such as yourself and educated laymen to support the poison.

    My first post...:leaving:

I'm pretty sure Agenda 21 had more to do with sustainible development then it does to systematic genocide of the poor or with globalization. In fact, I'm sure that when they reviewed it five years later they cited globalization as one of the main factors preventing the full implementation of Agenda 21.

If anyones really interested in it, you can find it here. But it is 900+ pages long, and about as exciting as watching paint dry.

In my humblest of opinons, globalisation in and of itself is not a bad thing. Modern globalisation certaintly isn't the same animal that reared its head in the 19th and early 20th century. That is, it isn't solely an economic beast. Modern globalisation has as much to do with the interaction of varied cultures as it does with TNCs (trans-national corporations) exploiting an international market.

Its the interaction of varied cultures that makes globalisation a possible force for good. It could be a process that cements ties between people of different nations, and encourages the creation of a kind of 'global culture' in which millions of people are actively participating and creating. The understanding that flows from that kind of production could produce better ties between people who are hundreds of miles away from each other. Thats a good thing in my opinon, because it can lead to a worldwide consensus on what kind of practices are and aren't exceptible for TNCs to engage in and see that economic globalisation is managed in a more exceptible manner.

Seriously, I can't picture Paris Hilton frying her own Big Macs. I can't imagine Bill Gates changing the oil in his own car. The only thing I can think of is meant to say enslave instead of death.

You got a point there man. Thruout history the poor have always served the rich. They've never been wiped out completly, or made anything better of themselves man. Paris Hilton probly can't even tie her own shoe laces, let alone plot the extermination of millions of people worldwide. If implemented in the correct ways globalization would be a good thing man. Just like Communism. If it had been used the way that it's creators had intended the USSR would have become the perfect government. But.... mankind's natural tendancies for greed an' hatred took over an' totally corrupted the forefathers of Communism's ideals.

If all the major political leaders took the time to sit down, stop worrying about personal an' political agendas, loosen their ties an' think of a way to make the world work better it could happen. John Lennon even spoke about globalization in his song Imagine. Listen to that song sometime an' then you'll grasp the true perfect world that so many of us have dreamed of for so long man.
    Peace, love, an' freedom

You're an idealistic moron. You can't implement a communist government the way Marx says because he never tells you how it will be run, only how it will form (and even that is fairly vague).

I may be idealistic but at least I'm openminded man. I never said that communism was or is perfect I simply said that it could've worked if we'd all put aside our greed an tried to work together.

Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try
No hell below us, above us only sky
Imagine all the people livin' for today

Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do
Nothin' to kill or die for, an' no religion too
Imagine all the people, livin' life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
an' the world will be as one

Imagine no possesions, I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people, sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
An' the world will live as one
    John Lennon

He had the right idea man. He understood all that separates the human race from one an' other. If we implemented these words as best we could eventually others would follow suit. Eventually.... who knows? We may finally be able to say. "Peace on earth is no longer a wish it's reality." An' the day we finally can say that is the greatest day in the history of our people. Because we are all the same. Black, white, yellow, red, there is no difference. When you look into our eyes we're all screamin' for the same thing. PEACE ON EARTH! So stop the hatred, stop the racism, stop the anti-semitism. An' lets just all get along. Peace is a blessin' that we need to earn man. But for those of us who've already earned it it's time to pass it on. What would the world have been like if the first time a Jew saw an Arab they'd said. "Wow they're just like us. I think we could get along."? What would the world've been like if our president an' the ruler of the USSR had sat down an' decided they weren't so different so why fight? Catch my drift man? I'm not idealistic, not really, I'm just a simple dreamer. A dreamer who hopes that someday with a lil help from others with the same dream, we can take it from our imaginations an' flip it into reality. Kinda like fryin' up a pancake man. You gotta get all the ingredients right to make it turn out good. An' you gotta tend to it an' make sure it don't burn man. So lets flip that pancake man. Lets get it ready, pour on the syrup an' eat.

Basing your political philosophy around a bunch of barely-coherent stoner brits may not be the best idea.

    What?

"Mind collectively refers to the aspects of intellect and consciousness manifested as combinations of thought, perception, memory, emotion, will and imagination; mind is the stream of consciousness. It includes all of the brain's conscious processes."

The main thing wrong with the whole globalization concept is that's it's just that a concept and a marketing term being sold as the only alternative.

And the people that are selling it are socially irresponsible, arrogant, and egocentric. They market it as if it's gonna benefit everyone, but that's bullshit, they're just out to make a buck for themselves.

When asked what he thought of Western Civilization, Gandhi said "That would be a good idea."

The Brits thought they were spreading civilization around the world to backwards people. Manifest Destiny was the same way, and it still is. A few people get jobs, but many more get displaced and forced out of their traditional lands at gunpoint. That's corporate globalization.

The North American Free Trade Agreemant displaced millions of indigenous farmers and drove down wages near the American border because of this displacement. The wages dropped because of an oversupply of workers who lost their land and moved to border towns. Now, there's a "flood" of them jumping into the United States to feed their families. That's colonialism.

The opium wars were waged by Britain in the name of "Free Trade".

I've read and re-read this post soo many times, it's one of the best I've found on this forum. "Western Civilization" is impossible, Gandhi was right.

    Hi Everyone,

I stopped reading after I think 12 pages but will read some more later today. If I repeat something that someone has said I am sorry about that. So far in the 12 pages I have gained some insight into how others outside of the carnage in the USA feels and also have learned some economics. So before I share my knowledge and upset most of you .. I would just say thanks.

Globalization: It is of my thought that this means a "One World Governmental Society." That means .. one body of elite, will indeed dictate how each of our countries, walk, talk, eat, work,. live, entertain, retire, play, fuck, and how long we do each of them. (If they in power should choose to do so)

The problems in that are unbelievably obvious to me but as yet I have not seen them discussed. We are all of such different cultures and ways of life. I don't think its a bad idea to trade with each other. In fact, I think if the rich countries would devote 1 year of time systematically to the poor ones ... help them build farms with fertile soil to grow food and bring the equipment and supplies to build housing then we could really do a lot to provide a world of people with much more to be thank full for and be happier. In other words a lot less hate and violence and a lot less reason to fight. I realize my idea may not be a favorite, but I think the world leaders in countries should get their asses out of other nations to destroy and breed hate and give money , help and a way for people to stand on enough solid ground to feed their starving babies. I know they would then all rise to the occassion and the economy would flourish. The governments are the problems. They are rich and corrupt and do not take care of their own people. The USA took the land busted their asses , grew their food and built this economy. Our ancestors worked their asses off to make this country prosper. There is no reason with the technology we have today, that every country could not sustain its own people if they had even a basic foundation. This country was formed under GOD .. and I know its not going to be popular, but God would want us to go help the poorer countries first before we layed around counting the coins.,... CHA CHING> We as a people need to support each other. My Gosh..

Now if you want to know my opinion on what we do need in way of Globalization.. Its not a one world corrupt goverrnment .. But a world wide group of police to probe into the governments of this world to stop corruption!!!! That is why the poor is poorer and why in the USA there is no more middle class or constitution. This is the fall of man as a race we are talking about ..

Now that above this sentence was a woman lending opinion and insight. Here is the facts ... and many things you will doubt as truth. I will say .. that on each point you can verify yourself .. You won't like what is actually Globilization. Not by any stretch. .. Ok I have changed my mind. I will not be taken seriously unless you do your own looking ... So I am going to point you in the directions by which you should find some adequate data. instead

Before I do... and for the record.. this thread asked a question. What is wrong with Globalization... The fact is Americans are very in the dark to most things that you living outside know. I don't think more than maybe 1000 people know the past 2 Presidential Elections were rigged and determined in OUR courts of law. See, the Media is bought and paid for and it never even hit the news ... We did not know and yet hes still in the White House. . Less than that knows about the SPP , the Superhighway construction, all the properties that will be taken for its construction or about the unification of MEXICO AND CANADA AND US into the North American Union. Its a done deal and the weasel even mentioned it in the state of the UNion address. But see things are done with a disguise and slowly so we get use to the loss of liberty. But its all real its all very real. And the problem is we the people were never consulted , never asked, never voted ,. Our 3 countries are incredibly different ... The mexican people speak an entire different language. But the trade opportunities I am all for. But even that has been decided upon .. the ports along this massive highway and lightrail system have already been given to the corporate elite. Lucrative spots that no one was able to bid on or share in the profits of. We don't even know we have lost our nation yet. Don't you see... if this is a good thing, why was it done behind our backs , in secret and executed without proper procedure.? Why have they been pretending that immigration was an issue, when all along they never intended to protect the borders? If this is a good thing Why do we have no right to disagree with our government? Why is it now an act of terrorism to rise up and speak against shadow governments?? This is merely on the USA side. Canadians know even less. No one that I know has a single clue about what I have just said, and this is merely a drop in the ocean of stuff you may not have any idea about yet. Trust me my friends and fellow humans out there. This is not something to be happy about and I can prove it.

First to back up my above statements on the SPP and the Nasco Super Highway .,. please look at these to start... and move on from there.

have a look at the list of attendees to this SPP meeting ...

Now then,, the big picture has to do with The U.N. and sustainable development and Agenda 21... it was made and signed decades ago.. and you can get a copy of this document. I urge you to do so. In interest of sanity or sounding even more insane than I already do... please.. do your own homework on the terms I have given you. I will let all of you decide if I am a crack pot on your own.

If you have progressed well I shall give you more to look into.

A good movie to get you crash coursed in historical relevance is zietgeist. Some argue the religious notions latyed out dispelling jesus as anything other than a myth.. But we know why that would be ... the movie references each source on the website. This movie is free and very well done by the way..
