Anybody who can freestyle like this deserves respect, imo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeMFtCcp-Vg Also, this is supposedly a freestyle, but it almost seems to complex. Either way, it's talent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPES-Yn475s
i like rap. i have respect for people who can freestyle too. i listen to it every now and then, my music collection contains quite a lot of it. Sometimes it shits me though when they take the track to another great song and do some shitty rap over it.

This has always been one of my favorites. "So High" by T-Rock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BShAGypsyg
I like some rap.. just mostly underground stuff (like EL-P) - or old school ODB, Wu-Tang-Clan, Fuggees.. and some French shit as well you wouldn't know: IAM, NTM, etc. that shit is good, and I listen to it. I just hate the commercial shit today. It's talentless.
I dont see any Talib or Mos on that list either...i think there is a different VH1 list with Common - I Used to Love H.E.R. in the top 5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_DRR87em-4&feature=related Blackstar shinin bright^ lot of people have misconceptions about hiphop that it is all about bitch this, nigga that, hos and ice - in reality, i'd feel comfortable saying the majority of hiphop is quite different. also theres a big difference in HIPHOP and RAP. rapping is something you do as an MC, but in hiphop there are more than just that and it is a complete lifestyle. there are 4 essential parts of hiphop life - bboyin, DJing, graffiti and MCin i agree that the commercial RAP is definitely worthless for the most part. i saw someone say that they can blame rap for the degenerates of our day? that's wild and preposterous. its like claiming that rock music is the cause for people to beat their kids or wife...
it lacks epicurean quality, and it lacks the ability to communicate with people who actually matter great, you're marginalized. so rap makes you feel better with it's sweaty raw energy. yay for you. it's like folk music for inner city people. if you have a tractor, you listen to pete seeger, if you have a bus pass, you listen to eminem.
I like that Hyphy....that's in large part why I no longer listen to rap, so I definitely see where you're coming from. Have you ever heard of the Blue Scholars by chance? I haven't heard any of their newer stuff, but when I use to listen to rap/hip hop they were one of my favorites because they actually explored that "subject matter" you speak of. They're from Seattle too, just saying cause you're from the west coast right? Edit: (This one's particularly good) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRkhiFmsPHU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIqMIrmpUjc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kI5xc1ggfM
