I never understood people who never expressed any interest in learning a foreign language.
But then again, maybe people don't understand my lack of interest in....I dunno....math?
    So what do I know.

Maths was by far my least interested subject. I excelled in home economics though lol. We even had German class.. I didn't have to do it. I was also pretty good in woodwork and metalwork. I picked electives I thought would be fun.

  5. Woodwork?
    Hey that's pretty cool.
We didn't really have anything interesting like that.

    Was this in elementary school?

No it was highschool. So up until 18yo I guess.
I chose woodwork, metalwork, sports and recreation, home economics, agriculture and on the side I did the courses that would get me my sports meiscine degree. I actually complete a year course in two years so that when I went to university, I was already a year up and only needed another 2 years.

  7. Oh cool.

We didn't have that much freedom in high school, or interesting stuff like that.

  8. I went to a gymnasium.
There are four types of those here.
The one I went to was focused on languages.

I want to learn languages but I'm not very good at it. You can't do everything.

  12. Ah never had any interest in North Germanic languages.
But I enjoy Nordic noir a lot.

If yall have Netflix, Fallet is awesome...once you get first episode out of the way.
Only 8 episodes, and they last 30 minutes each.

I was taught to never load a gun in the house. In fact I was specifically told to never load a gun until I arrive at the place where I intend to shoot. As soon as this guy inserts a shell I involuntarily cringe.

I wish the American education system focused more on languages and at a younger age

Language should be taught from kindergarten up, every year, instead of requiring only 2 years in high school

Although I took 5 years of french, from 8th grade and up. And I hardly remember any of it. Use it or lose it, i guess

Very impressive! Some folks have a knack for languages. I can get by with Spanish and my native English. I have a friend that speaks 4 languages fluently. He can even distinguish the different dialect from Mexico, Spain, Central America, Colombia, Chile etc. I like to travel with him to Latin countries.

Unfortunately we cannot regularly use most languages to practice except Spanish. Europeans can use different languages with their neighbors.

I too had many years of French and cannot speak it.

That's difficult. I'm trying to teach myself spanish now. I listen to a podcast at work by a Spanish woman who gives spanish lessons, then I flip between two radio stations in the car - one is Colombian and one is Mexican. The Colombian and Mexican djs sound like they're speaking a completely different language from the Spanish woman sometimes. Not that I can really understand what any of them are saying yet lol

I have wished this same thing of the British education system for years.

Even though you've forgotten it now, do you think relearning it now would be easier? Or is it totally gone
