So, Irminsul... How is it that you're way more intelligent about football than most people. You have the vocabulary down it would seem. I'm impressed by your knowledge of football! :)

Back in like 97/98 my friends at HS played Madden. We even went to Sydney to watch a pre season game of Chargers and Broncos. I didn't play madden for a couple years around 2007-2008 I guess, but I've have all the games since and when I worked clubs on late shifts I'd always do everything so I could watch football at like 4am lol.

I was a junior in '97. Fun times. But I don't remember madden. We had like Tomb Raider and people were playing N64. There probably were Madden games around but I was way too self absorbed to be into sports games. I was more interested in Kurt Cobain or something.

I've always been sporty. Was into athletics when I was young, the did some fencing and archery, I wasn't too bad at netball or volleyball either and horse riding. Sports culture is pretty big in Australia so you learn you have to pick teams and sides. Then I also liked being on the sidelines so my last two years of HS I had to really think about what I wanted to do in life and I knew I wanted to do something with sport so I went for sports medicine at uni and easily got in because I made sure I took the right electives in HS. So I was on the sidelines for big local teams strapping and injury management.

When I finished that degree I actually sent my resume to Denver university. They said they had no positions available but wanted to meet me anyway. I was like wtf that was meant to be a joke. I kinda regret that, but at the time going to America for a interview where nothing was available seemed pointless. I was also under 21 so can't drink. :p

And rowing, I wasn't bad a rowing I did that for a year before 4am starts got to me and I realised I didn't enjoy it but our row club won some events and at one stage, I was ranked 32nd in Australia for single skull. Our team ran 4th and we missed out on a bronze medal in the quad. I'm kinda proud to say I was ranked 32nd in the country but I also knew my body build was a let down. I may have been able to quad or 8 my way to the big time but rowing was measured mostly on solo ability. If you're fast solo, you'll be fast in a group.

When you think about 32nd in the country.. Some clubs let alone schools have 32 rowers, so it was quite a big deal.

I remember in the Nationals in my last event my oar snapped the saddle it sits in and I went in the water maybe 50m from the line. I wasn't in a position to win anything and the boat came up to me to help me out but I grabbed my boat and doggy paddled over the finish line, then when I swam it to the side, that portion of the hill in the audience all came to me and helped me out of the water and carry my boat back to the regatta.

Knowing it was a big event in my life I made sure I ripped out a buoy from the water and took it home for souvenir. I wrote on it the date etc. I had that for 15 years or so until my dad sent me photo of his dog and to my horror, he'd give the buoy to his dog as a toy.

I also was in the NSW Championships at Penrith which was my biggest race at the time and I was literally that far off it was embarrassing I finished minutes behind anybody. That's when I started to learn I just didn't have the build for it. The drive and passion yes, but for every pull back I made, a taller girl was getting 2 meters on me every stroke.

So I put in more effort and went to the nationals and ranked 32nd. That was the last time I ever rowed competitively.

That's incredible. I didn't know you're Australian. My sig is Australian, but it's really about saving electricity. I don't know why I picked it actually. Anyway. Yeah, I thought you were from Deutschland.

Born in Austria, we lived in Germany, when I was 13 we moved to Australia and when I was about 25 my girl and I moved away back home and then 4 years ago we bought our house in Germany.

And that's why I can talk all sports and developed my street talk. :p

That's a rad story Irminsul! :) so cool. :sunglasses: I've always lived in California with the exception of a brief stint in Northern Idaho when I was 15 and a 5 month period in Denver when I was 20 (in the year 2000).

There's also a girl who rows for Australia and has become accomplished that I used to row with named Sarah. Can't remember her last name. Gorgeous tall red head of sorts. I always like to watch her come championships and Olympics. We won some races races together in doubles.

I have a great relationship with my dad pretty much galvanised from athletics when I was kid. See my dad wanted a son and he got four daughters so after the 3rs daughter which was me I think he just went "alright, this one will be the sporty one" so I always remember like my earliest memories always running around, catching balls, throwing, kicking etc. Little athletics. I wasn't a bad swimmer either but didn't like it as much. So I always remember me and dad at the ovals running and long jump etc.

My dad suffered a bad back and most of his spine is metal plates. He couldn't run with me anymore and I could see it in his eyes how much that hurt. So I just stuck with sports I always wanted to make him proud, I meant a lot to him, me performing if I look back now was his biggest enjoyment maybe of his parenthood.

The day I told him I wouldn't be playing netball or volleyball anymore he didn't talk to me for a week. He was so let down, he had nothing left to do on weekends. Though he was happy I went into sports medicine and training and would then come to local rugby games and watch me on the sidelines instead "that's my girl!" I can imagine him saying.

He also taught me pool and now that I've moved away he hasn't seen how well I have done at it. Once I was on live YouTube like the cameras where focussed on 2 tables but you could clearly see me playing on the table behind so i got my miss to message dad and tell him to watch which him and my mum did. I won that match too. I remember, I was playing and I knew he was watching and I didn't want to let him down so I smashed this chick pretty easily actually. He commented on my body language and antics during play. :p

I do the old Layton Hewitt COME ON!!! victory arm.
