I too don't like hot weather all too much.

I find it much easier to heat up than cool down so winter is a breeze. Once I heat up and start sweating I feel eww and sticky. Damn you heat!! -stomps-

I'm trying a very very dodgy sounding site to get my Shaggy cd to me. Free shipping to Europe from America. :)

That's where it's a bit dodgy sounding. But. Anyone really wanting postage fees is really just after a lil bit more money I think.

I went to hatchetgear just before they want $35US to ship a cd. Lol yeah right.

*yawn* so tired! Got some sun today, but also got a headache. :/

I need to eat now, so going to do that.

Oh, Irmi, we tried looking for the Indy 500 on tv earlier. Maybe we missed it. NASCAR pre race chatting was on, but it was just boring talk. I wish I could get back out to the Indy track. Never been there for a race, but did visit the track once (or at least the garage?? idk it was so long ago, it seems :p)

anyway, yeah, soo tired, hungry, I'm fading... laterz!

    :p

I remember my daddy had a confederate flag keychain a long with my FIGJAM keychain mum wouldn't let me keep and I had no idea what the confederate flag was you don't see it in Germany and it's much more visable in Australia but has the affiliation with the Rebels motorcycle gang so that what I grew up knowing, or thinking that it was just a bike gang colors.

So when I bought him a history of country music book he read and asked me to find this Johnny Rebel character that had apparently had all his music banned for being too racist. I remember he asked me to search online to see if I could find anything. Easily done. So when it came in the mail I was like hey, that's the Rebel flag? And dad told me some history about it. He's interested in the civil war I don't think too knowledgeable but always reading and watching civil war and he told me that it was the south flag and about what the Johnny Rebel actually was which I remember he said was the nickname for the South fighting folks.

He also told me they wore grey and that he'd always had a soft spot for the boys in grey. Now he never meant the southerners he was talking about the German Army too. And we went to the pub one night and daddy had bought about 6 or 7 blue hats and the same amount grey hats, replica civil war hats and he handed them to all his friends at the pub for Xmas and gave all the blue ones to the policital speaking bullshitters, as he described, and all the grey ones went to the friends he said would back him up in a fight.

So, we had like 15 people drinking beers and playing pool all in our little civil war caps. :D it was pretty amusing.

That was maybe a decade ago now and still when I see a confederate flag I just think of my dad and the way he said "I just like it" he liked the design and the look. No malice, just a random guy who liked a flag.

That's where I get my like for it too. Just reminds me of him, and that day at the pub with the hats. :D like just think a group of old men having fun. Laughing and spilling beers and pretending to shoot each other and it was hats of all things. Civil War hats. :D

When I was driving through I think it was South Carolina there was a shop on the highway seemed very secluded on its own and it was called something like the capital of the south or something, was just a confederate merchandise store flags everywhere. I was going to stop in and get a flag but we drove past it and every time I think about that road trip in particular I'm always disappointed in myself that I never shopped around in there.

I also remember the people at the racetrack, a Canadian couple askednus what we thought of it. I remember saying it means nothing to us whatsoever it's just a flag" and they were like yeah means nothing for us either. Then you had people wearing the shirts that's said "if you're offended by this flag then you don't know history" or something similar to this statement. I always chuckled because the look of the people that wore that shirt didn't look like the people who'd read a history book to begin with and though I'm not educated in American History, I probably wouldn't take their words for granted on the subject. :d

Texas was the only state we saw zero Rebel flags that I can remember.

Those flags are offensive but they have a right to display them under the constitution.

On a related subject, I was very happy to read about the Georgia couple who were sentenced to a combined 28 years in prison for terrorizing the birthday party of an African American child,

They too were displaying the confederate flag, although I don’t want to leave out two key points; one that the female was yelling racial slurs, and the second; the male was pointing a shotgun.

Better start telling those flags to stay furled, those flags offending too many people! You can't just go and offend people ya pack of flags. :D

im actually offended by the rainbow flag it's too colorful it doesn't represent who I am and I don't get how it's meant too. The colors of positivity have never represented the history of my people! We should be black and red, red for blood and black for the shadows we've all hidden in.

I can't understand half these Americans on iracing when they talk. :D especially the real southern ones.

I'm very polite. "Thank you" "thank you" and they come in with some Kentucky accent I dunno what the hell they saying, they need better microphone equipment.

And just when I thought I could understand, someone from the UK starts talking and I don't think ANYBODY knew what was said. :D

Silence. Then me. ... "so, yeah, number 5... good racing thank you" lol.

I dont know what heritage they're celebrating. In truth the wealthy landowners, the people who actually started the war, would have thought these people weren't worth the shit on the bottom of their shoes. There was a serious caste system in the south pre-Civil war, and the lower caste had it pretty bad. There still is a caste system if you ever venture into cities like Charleston and Savannah. All the descendents of the wealthy landowning class who managed to hang on to their gigantic mansions and some of their wealth through the war don't care about working class people who drive pick up trucks and display the Confederate flag.

I dunno, it just seems like they're celebrating the glory of a south that never really belonged to them. Lower class people were just used to fight a rich man's war, like all wars really.

Just my two cents, I'm probably getting too political. My bad.

What I don't understand is that everyone (in America, anyway) knows that the confederate flag is popularly perceived as a symbol of slavery and by association racism. As a person who lives in America you know this, no question about it. You know that black folks will see this flag and feel uncomfortable and threatened (even if you think they shouldn't, they will). You are aware that other people will see you adorned with the flag and think you are a racist (even if you aren't). Why do you want to be perceived that way? Is this arbitrary symbol of "Southern Pride" really worth the feelings you will undoubtedly evoke in others? Are there not other ways to express the same proud sentiment?

I get that displaying the flag is a part of your free speech, and this right to expression should be heavily policed. But I still don't get why you would want to cause discomfort for other people if you could express the same message in a different and more productive way. My two cents, anyway.

Soooo this is okay to discuss in this thread, but for example Erdogan and the referendum is not for this thread?
Where exactly do we draw the line?

It's hot here too. Last few days. Love it! Unfortunately tomorrow it will be bearable again for old people too (sucks! :()

I also think its pointless to keep politics entirely out of a random talk thread but i guess the line is drawn when a political topic threatens to become a bigger discussion and the random talk posts are the exception on a page or more.
